  • Misting Windows

    Hi all,

Sorry guys, a non Surf related question

My wife's Astra mists up inside it's windows so you can't see out!

If you start off driving with a clear windscreen, within a mile they will so misted up you can't see out. Even with the heater on HOT (not that the Astra gets very hot) and the fan going full tilt it still does not clear. Only solution is to turn on the Air Con and it clears in seconds

When clear if you turn off the Air Con it mists up again, wots going on?

Life on the edge is short, but the view is great !

Sounds like a leaky heater matrix, leaking coolant into the car, causing the misting...
    It just does, OK?

was going to suggest the same thing - leak in the heater matrix - i have been unfortunate enough to have this happen on two of my previous cars, worth checking passenger and driver footwell carpet, 9 of 10 these will be damp from the leak

I know this sounds stoopid but.............. I had several Astras as company cars and it is dead easy to leave the air on re-circulate. You need the button with the car logo and the arrow through the windscreen selected.
        It's only a hobby!

          change the pollen filter.

this will sort it if the problem isn't a leaky heater matrix.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

I thought that (wimmin!), but no that's not it.

If I take out the pollen filter to test if it's that, will it be OK?

not sure, they're called cabin filters i think these days and basically just stop all the dust and other airbourne particals getting into the motor via ventilation.

i'd have thought just taking it out would give you some indication as to whether that be the problem, but it's well worth changing anyway.
