Toyota dealers don't get paid very much from toyota japan so the dealers when asked say that the surf aint covered under the recall. What they said to you was the same as they said to me and i had to get Toyota UK to ring my dealer to tell them to do the work

It is emerging that Toyota europe is the primary route to go, they certainly appear efficient on this occaision. Also not to believe or trust your local dealership - since the recall I have had so much junk mail from them!!
Did I mention I have a BLUE one

Today - Bank Holiday Monday I received this...

Thank you very much for providing us with your details.

I sent all your data to Toyota Motor Corporation; their related division will start the procedure to have your vehicle repaired. I informed Toyota Great Britain about your case. They are responsible for handling all customers concerns on their market and they will contact you to have the repair carried out.

          Yours sincerely,

          Ilaria Todesco
          Customer Relations Specialist
          Customer Relations Department

Cc : Customer Relations Department, Toyota Motor Corporation

Seems like I've just got to sit back and wait for the tos*ers at Ipswich Toyota who told me that it was NOT on the recall to get in touch with me.

I'd love to see their faces when they get told to do it!

I'll keep you up to date.

Having had the recall work done on my 1995 KZN130 last Thursday I emailed Jane at Toyota UK on Friday evening to explain I had just bought another 1993 KZN130, for my wife, that also needed the recall work.

Got a telephone call from Jane at 9.20am today to say the work is approved. Called my Plymouth dealer and booked Surf in for Tuesday.

It seams that once a dealer has gone through the procedure of doing one recall the subsequent ones are much more easily arranged. Jane said so much during our phone conversation.

I tend to agree here, as when i called our local dealer they said they had already done one recently so just bring in a copy of the email from Toyota GB and they will do the work, which they did last week, and also coughed up the bubbly, valet and safety check. Only problem was, it was the missus who took it down to them, and what did she do before getting there??? Filled the f**king tank up. Bang went the £10 free fuel!!
Is it supposed to sound like this??

                    Had mine done.

                    No bubbly.

                    No courtesy car.

However, no messin about either. Rang, booked car in, took it in today, picked it up when they said. Finished, nice shiny (well, clean anyway) steering rod. They didn't even try to do any unnecessary work!

I can do without substandard fizzy wine, and dont feel I've missed out by not driving a Yaris for the day.

Therefore, a cautious thumbs up to Brookly Toyota, Worcester.

                      Well, Well

                      What a result.
Emailed Toyota GB on the 16/08 to find out if my vehicle is one of those that will need the recall work done. Today I received a call back from them to say that I do need to take the car in and I should call my local garage to arrange a convenient time. Called up Toyota Battersea and it has been booked in for the 14/09, no arguments or confusion, just very helpful and they even offered a coutesy car. Thought I was really going to struggle, but seems there is someone at Toyopet GB that knows what is going on.

So i phone our nearest toyota dealer up and he tells me that the japanese imports are not included in the recall lol.

So i have to fax my letter through and he will take it from there

I got a letter (in the UK and then forwarded to me in Kenya) from:

                            Michael Cole
                            Dir, Sales & After Sales
                            Great Burgh
                            Epsom
                            Surrey
                            KT18 5UX
                            01737 363633

I replied saying I was on "an extended safari in Africa" and couldn't come back to the UK right now (!). Within a couple of weeks I received another letter saying "No problem - just contact Toyota East Africa and they'll undertake the necessary repair". I did and they did - after waiting a few more weeks for the part to come from Japan.

So my 4Runner was sorted out yesterday and I had the idler arm changed as well as that was looking a bit sloppy. I have to admit that I was surprised, nay shocked, that they honoured th UK recall out here in Kenya. Surprised, shocked and very pleased! I've got to say that Toyota have my vote...

By the way, I paid GBP 139.87 (excluding VAT) for the idler I replaced in 2002. Here in Kenya I just paid just over 63 quid for the same item (again ex. VAT). Genuine OE part as supplied by Toyota - i've got to admit that not everything is priced that well (filters especially) but maybe I'll have to be more thankfull in future.

They contacted me again today and said i can book it in from the 18th septeber onwards, and i will have to leave the car with them for 4 hours minimum.

I asked if i could have a car while the work takes place as i work split shifts, and i would then be able to drop the surf off, and the wife could then pick it up later.
They said they cannot do this, so it leaves us with a bit of a problem as the garage is a 30 minute drive away.

Well I took my wife's 1993 ZNZ130 in for the recall work at Plymouth this morning. Work completed in 90mins, while I waited.

They carried out the Toyota 26 point safety check on this 13 year old motor and explained that the front pads were 80% worn (I knew that and have pads to fit already) and there are a few marks on the paint! So all is well then.

Then they expained that apart from the valet they had put a complimentary £10 worth of fuel in the tank. Thanks I said, but why did my own 1995 KZN130, that I bought in last week, not get the same complimentary fuel? Also, I had read on this forum that others had been given a bottle of bubbly!

Toyota man looks slightly taken aback and goes away again. When he returns he gives me a £10 fuel voucher, that can be redeemed at a local filling station, and a bottle of bubbly. Result .

Mind you, I wonder if the bubbly is only given out if you ask for it and if you don't it's a nice bonus for someone - or am I being unkind?
