what i realy need to know is what size socket am i borrowing from work to get the damm hub nut off before i go headlong into the fray??

check with tonyn but i think there is a torque figure but then it has to be released back off a little....but then again wot do i know, i could be talking a load of old tosh, think ill go to bed....CHEERS JOHN................

A Tone reply to a wheel bearing ask......
Generally try just tightening the fronts first, if they go loose again them they need replacing.
If you strip them down look for marks on the bearing faces, if they are scored or discoloured they need replacing.
To set them correctly you need to do the nut up to about 43ft/lb, then spin the hub, loosen the nut then retighten to 18ft/lb. Then put a spring balance on one of the wheel lugs and check you get 3-5 kg of pressure before the hub spin round.

If done carefully, its fine. The torque of the nut isn't as important as the preload on the bearing, but basiclly it shouldn't be loose when wobbling the wheel, but not so tight it binds.
Be sure to pull the pads off the disc when testing it, as they can hold the disc in place and make it seem tighter thasn it is.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...
