if you realy wanna use a socket i think its 54mm,i didnt! just used a hammer and chisel to get off and back on..remember if you do use a socket be carfull not to tighten them up to much you will crush the bearing...

A Tone reply to a wheel bearing ask......

Generally try just tightening the fronts first, if they go loose again them they need replacing.

If you strip them down look for marks on the bearing faces, if they are scored or discoloured they need replacing.

To set them correctly you need to do the nut up to about 43ft/lb, then spin the hub, loosen the nut then retighten to 18ft/lb. Then put a spring balance on one of the wheel lugs and check you get 3-5 kg of pressure before the hub spin round.

Its perfectly fine to do it like this, as long as you're careful with the nut, try not to hit to hard or near a corner, you don't want loose chunks of the nut falling off. If its been done before, clean the nut up wit ha file before you put it back.

If done carefully, its fine. The torque of the nut isn't as important as the preload on the bearing, but basiclly it shouldn't be loose when wobbling the wheel, but not so tight it binds.

Be sure to pull the pads off the disc when testing it, as they can hold the disc in place and make it seem tighter thasn it is.
