Toyota Recall For Surfs

  • I questioned Toyota about what you get on the recall - here's the response:

    Thank you for your email dated 5 July 2006.

    As this recall has not been instigated by Toyota (GB) PLC, there are no formal guidelines on providing gifts to customers after the recall has been carried out and I would, therefore, conclude that this is at the discretion of each individual Centre.

    I trust this is of assistance.

    I wonder which dealers have just lost the chance of repeat business for being mean.

    • Guess who's booked in for Friday. Lovely lady, Jenny, left me a
      message this morning telling me to contact local dealer. Just phoned
      the dealer, and they have slotted me in on Friday. Well chuffed.

        i got phoned on friday to let me know they had pased my details on to whoever and will be contacted when they know if i need to be done.

        Matt how long did it take them to come through?

        • I've rang Toyota U.K today to coplain about my local dealer who split the rubbers on the inner track rod ends and left 2 bolts out on the bash plate.
          They are going to get in touch with parklands to find out what is going on as i rang them last friday and still waiting for them to ring me back and i am getting pee'd off with them now so i will wait to see whether i get a call back now.

            Initially contacted Toyota GB on 24/05/06 via e-mail. When I didn't
            receive a reply, contacted Toyota Europe on 01/06/06 via e-mail.
            Toyota Europe are really on the ball. Within a few days, they had
            confirmed it was eligible for the recall and said that things were
            progressing and to contact GB for further enquiries. Contacted GB
            on 28/06/06, via e-mail, just to see if they had any info on how things
            were progressing. After again getting no reply, contacted Europe
            via e-mail on 13/07/06 to ask the same question. I assume they
            must have prodded GB a bit, , as I received a phone call from
            Jenny, (hope I have spelt it correctly), this morning to advise me
            to contact local dealer to arrange to book it in for the work doing.
            Contacted the local dealer, they booked it in for Friday. Result.
            Apart from the errant e-mail responses from GB, I must admit that
            I have to give them top marks. I mean, fifteen year old vehicle,
            shipped half way around the world, and it's getting sorted less than
            two months after contacting them. I'm impressed.

                • Pentagon. Yup. Dream on with the Yaris. I prefer driving
                  something where it doesn't feel like your backside is on the road.

                  • Had my letter and a Phone call from Jane Allen this week, local dealer is know trying to contact Toyota GB to confirm the recall....
                    Should here from them in the next day oor so or I will be getting back to them very soon.

                      They have been in touch now and willing to replace the rubbers but they are not going to give me a courtesy car or pay my fuel so i have told them to stick where the sun don't shine as i aint taking another day off for them to repair the damage they done.

                        arranged a courtesy car.... wonder if i will get some bubbly ?

                          Why don't you ask them to send you the parts. At least you're not having
                          to fork out for replacements, then. And at least you know you'll do it correctly.

                          Sounds like there is a large variation between dealers. Couldn't fault mine in
                          any way.

                              • Got confirmation from Toyota Europe (3 days after my initial request, that's good service, so far), that my vehicle is subject to the recall three weeks ago and sent them details of local dealer (just opposite where I work in Crawley!), just waiting now for confirmation of booking.
                                Got an itch, might need to scratch it soon.
