Hi, You probably all know about these but just in case- I got these from the ebay seller i got my gauges from, The green ones for the water temp gauge sender, Just cut the hose slip it in and screw in the sender run a wire from the screw to engine (earth), Comes with hose clips and also in different sizes,
Im gonna use the lower rad hose, The blue one is for oil temp/pressure gauges
and has four tapping for senders and blanking plugs for the ones you dont need, Just remove oil filter, fit this and refit the filter, screw in the senders and your away, There a bit heavy at £12 and £25 respectively but it certainly
a lot easier than hunting around for tees and adaptors and you get a roll of PTFE as well, Just thought i'd mention em, Ian

      That is very interesting...

I shall follow that with interest...

What about properly calibrated meters though... or at least meters that understand the information from those senders...?

How will you know that your meter is really reading 100 degrees centigrade if it hasn't been calibrated...?

And how do you know you meter is accurate...

Didn't mean much by it.... just thinking out loud...

I assume he's gonna use the sender that come with the guage, I would'nt do any other way, the port is nice though, I'm gonna get a couple of them.

Not sure about the bottem hose though, that's fresh cooled water, not much good to know that, better putting it on the top hose so you know how hot the engine is running.

Most 2.4's have a spare tapped outlet on the front of the stat housing, I put the senders in there.

Do the gauges you use have a voltage stabliser fitted or do you use the 12v feed from the instrument cluster to maintain a controled input voltage ?

Check the size of the thread on the oil filter gismo. I'm sure you'll find it's the wrong size for the surf. OD of the thread should be 24mm. OD of the whole unit will also be wrong.

OK Nev, Im Hoping to do it the week end (bank holliday), As far as the oil port
thing, The guy reccons this one fits the surf, They are available in different thread sizes for different vehicles and it comes with a long list of the suitable
vehicles (toyota being one of em), The seller seems to be a genuine guy
(company) and im sure that if i have any probs he will help me out or refund
(especially as i've bought 5 of these "ghost face gauges from him),
Tony, Yep the gauges come with all the wireing / senders etc so i have to assume there factory calibrated, I'll take your advice and fix the water sender to the top hose then, I was thinking the bottom hose was the one that warmed up first before the stat opened, Perhaps you could confirm this for me ( the flow direction i mean) Ta, Again these ports come in different
sizes and are colour coded starting at 28mm and going up in gradients of 2mm
to 42mm, They are a bit pricey but are well made and finished, As for the gauges like i said im not too worried about exact accuracy as long as they tell me if everythings running ok and their supplimental to the trucks gauges
anyway, I must admit i chose these gauges mainly for bling although they do
have good spec, Well we'll see! Fingers crossed the ports are the right sizes,
                      Ian

Measure the threaded part of the adapter which screws onto the filter and let me know what size it is. No need to be super accurate but if you have a set of verniers that would be good. It looks like a 3/4x16TPI thread or similar size to that. The reason I ask is I've searched for this type of thing before and no one anywhere makes them to suit a Surf that I know of. There are only a couple of vehicles besides the Surf which have the 24mm thread on the filter so producing them would not be viable.

Double post!! Do i get the rusty screw (a lubricated screw would be much better), Some pics of the gauges, I partly wired em last weekend (except of course the sender wires) The volt one is working and reads about the same as the trucks gauge though, However i'll have to do some checking behind there as i've got some odd stuff happening, The leds round the ign switch which used to come on with the lights now dosent but comes on with the ign
and when i switch the led "angel eyes" (spot lights) on, the back light in the compass goes dim, so i've cocked summat up, Have'nt fitted the boost
gauge yet cos i've got to get a 2" pod for it to go on the pillar and i'll prob have to get a longer plastic tube as well, The one that come with the gauge dose'nt look long enough, I got no work this morn as you can tell so gonna have a poke around see what i've done wrong, Cheers, Ian
