This morning my wife took the surf as usual to take my 3 year old to her nan and grandads for the day. I had a phone call at 9.30 to say they had been involved in an accident. I managed to get to the scene and the place was filled with police, ambulance, fire engines.
No other vehicles were involved, the police think the tyre burst on the surf, and this brought both air bags into action, my wife couldn't see, and she spun across the road through a fence and hit a tree full on.
My 3 year old is ok and was checked by the paramedics, but shaken up a bit. My wife sustained facial injuries and strains to the shoulders, but these were all as a result of the safety features working properly. The paramedic said they were extremely lucky, the chassis and build of the surf had taken the impact, and the air bags had saved her from extreme damage. My daughter was securely strapped in her car seat in the rear and came through unscathed apart from being frightened.
Suffice to say, we are all pretty shook up, after getting her back from the hospital, but they are ok, and thankful for the build of this vehicle. It could have been a lot worse. I haven't seen the surf close up yet, as I was too concerned for my family, but it took a big impact when it hit the tree. All I remember seeing was both air bags operated and the screen smashed.
I've rang the pound that is holding it, and was surprised for him to say it would probably not be a right off and looked repairable.
Lady behind my wife, said she heard a loud bang and the car veered towards the left towards the kerb and trees.
I'm just glad the injuries are minor and she could have been in our car instead.
You never expect it to happen to you
