Accident!!!, but Surf is secure for my missus and littl'un
Glad everyone got out of it OK. Cars can be rebuilt, people are much harder to rebuild. Glad the truck did it's stuff and protected everyone however it's a bit worrying that the airbags deployed when the tyre burst - I'm quite glad I don't have them.
Anyway best wishes to your family for a swift recovery.
Well ,just been to see it, and its a sorry state, complete front and nearside smashed to bits, alloys are smashed.........but would you believe the ****** thing started and run as sweet as a nut!!. Is there no stopping these things.
Recovery engineer said it could be rebuilt when he showed me around it, and used to work for the company its going to, if it can be repaired.
I was amazed to see all electric windows were down, and he said this is a safety feature on these vehicles, on impact, all electric windows lower to enable escape from the vehicle or access for emergency services.............another nice addition from the japs.
He said the vehicle had took the whole impact and if she had been driving a car it would have been another story, and seeing the state of it I can well believe it. Absolutely no damage internally (apart from air bags). The brunt of the force was taken by the chassis and front end.
Should hear in a couple of days if its a yes or no
Wow - sounds like a lucky escape and I'm glad it turned out ok.
Just a wee word of caution though - we should not think we're indestructible just because we're in a Surf. In fact vehicles with chassis generally tend to do poorly in crash tests compared to monocoque cars. Although the vehicle may survive a crash well, the energy has to go somewhere - and that's usually into the next weakest link down the chain ie it gets transferred into the humans. I looked up the NCAP crash tests for the American variant of the 2nd gen Surf - the (I think 1990) 4Runner and they scored zero stars (out of five) in both the occupant and pedestrian survivability tests.
I guess the moral of the tale is - 'take care' - all the vehicle design features in the world aren't a replacement for a skilled and careful driver. (unless of course, you're Captain Scarlett)
Addendum: Actually the weight of the vehivle also makes a massive difference:
Take it easy and Get well soon,.... Robnw67, how true your words are, I hope we listen to them. ..... vehicles need a cumple zone to absorb impact and the surf ain't got much of one if any. Makes you think dunnit?

What makes me think as that the airbag caused this crash. I driven out of plenty of front and rear punctures, last thing I want is a big bag getting my way after a blowout.

i seem to remember a thread a while back about cars from import being letf in a hot country and this causing a problem with the rubber perishing. I wonder if that was the cause of this problem?
clad to here that the dependants are all ok that is the main thing.#
