  • Bloomin' Typical

At last we now got snow here, albeit 1/2 inch and still falling, and I've got no truck to go and play in it!

So I'm just going to sit here and pout all night. Balls.
    I NEED TO OFFROAD!

what's actually happened to your truck then Danno?

Surely it can't be worse then what I did which required a full engine rebuild...?

absolutely, no problem. TonyN (of 4x4 Toys - 01256 473397 just in case a newbie doesn't know who Mr N is!) did the collecting, dismantling and diagnosing work when we weren't sure how bad it was. Having found the cause to be a holed piston he then also removed the lump from the truck (one big arse engine crane required!).

I then used QEP (Quality Engineered Products - 01444 243720/www.Q-E-P.co.uk) to do the assessment of how bad the block/head had warped etc. They then also did the basic rebuild. This included:

                    Block skim
                    Head skim
                    Engine bore
                    Oversized pistons
                    Crank regrind

The block then went back to Tony to be mated to the head and then put back in the truck and setup. We also put in Diesel Bobs uprated injectors.

I haven't fully run the engine in enough yet to be able to give it full on beans and check the power, but it is definately much, much smoother and it is soooo quiet! At tickover it sounds like it did before, but when it is running we really can't even hear it in the cabin. It has completely tranformed the engine for the better, it's so nice. I don't know how much can be attributed to the oversized pistons/skimming etc. or the new injectors. It would have been nice to try the injectors on standard first to see the difference. Either way, I'm Well happy

Price-wise, between 4x4 Toys and QEP the total amount was just under £2K. As they tend to with these things, the price reflects the individual circumstances and I'm not sure I'd count on it being so cheap.

As for photos, there have been some posted by Tony when the engine was on the stand and then being put in the truck - I'll try and find the link. As for how it looks now, it looks exactly the same as it did before only cleaner!

Thanks for that Snoop... I'll keep that in mind.

Don't think mine is going to let go anytime soon, just thought I ought to be prepared... 'cos sooner or later it will...

I know mine was clocked coming into the UK and it now shows 155K... So that could mean anything between 180K and 220K in real terms.

I could rebuild it, but I've always wanted a bit more power so I'm looking at another option.

Besides the snows gone here already. The south sucks for snow.

This wouldn't start with 'R' and end in 'over V8' per chance would it?

Remember we are talking of Danno here - more likely to be Chevvy V8

                              Isn't the Ford 302ci shorter...?

Or completely bonkers... a 351ci Clevelend...

NWOR do the engine mount adapters, and transfer case adapters for the gearbox's...

                              Not that I've looked myself...
