With a risk of having my head bitten off, I to am a newbie surfer, who has just come back off hols to southern France, (gorges, mountains, 130k cruising in blistering heat etc) and in a month have done just under 4,000k.
                Best tankfull was 505k
                Average tankful 425k
                averaged fraction under 30mpg
found out many things about the oddities of surfs, over the past month that I wished I had known before buying one.
Overall, I am converted for life, love it to bits.

                      Hi dog book,

Like quite a few others in here, I regularly get around the 28 m.p.g. mark (mainly motorway at 75ish) which is very good compared to my boat which gets 4.5 m.p.g. but at least that is with red stuff.

I've had the surf since Feb. and the grin is, if anything, increasing.

                      Colin

How many miles per gallon to expect from a KZN 130 , well as a guide my current baby ( see Avatar piccy ) complete with inter-flux capacitor on the roof.

Since 25th Aug 2004 has travelled 21,922 miles at an average fuel consumption of 25.16 miles per gallon. Thats every mile & fuel loaded recorded over the period.

That is average for all types of road, motorway - dual carraigeway - normal twin road - single track ( in Scotland we have quite a lot ) - small amount off road.

Holding speed om "fast roads" to the 65 / 70 mph area with ocassional blood rushes to the brain - up to 85 mph

                          Normal roads - 60 mph
Single track - 10 to 15 mph average

So there you have it around 25 with a bl***y big roof rack.

                                MPG Thread

For all those who are interested, I have found that if you can keep the needle below the 3,000 rpm mark you can save a fortune in fuel.

130kph = 3,200 rpm (385-410k per tank, but if you can cruise at 100kph you will notice that your fuel consumption decreases, and 500k per tankfull is easily attained.

Ps....it also helped when I found out that I was sold a surf with an AC which did not work, and never had done, as it was the old "freon" type system, and as temps ranged from 37 to 40 degrees, I could have done with it. So for the 2nd half of the holiday, it was turned off, which increased consumption again.

If anyone knows of anywhere in the SW who can do 12a on the cheap, I would be grateful
