  • fuel economy

Hi all, just wanted to hear from a few fellow surfers on fuel consumption...ive got a 3.0 td auto on a 94 plate, only had it a week so ive been out non stop lol
anyway, ive just used a full tank and got 425 km out of it which ive worked out about 22 miles to the gallon, bearing in mind thats mostly town driving with a few coutry roads but no long steady runs!!

how does this sound? good or bad...i,m chuffed as i initially said i,d be happy with 400k for the tank and got a bit more.

    wayne.

Sounds quite good. My average is only just over 22mpg and that's including plenty of M-way runs as well.

Err...I think you need more than one tank/one week of data to work out a TRUE mpg. Keep your diesel receipts for a few months, do a few thousand km- then you'll be closer to the true figure!

The 'quick' mpg method is to fill the tank up full (I mean really full so you can see the diesel). Drive a few hundred km till nearly empty. Fill till really full again (must be to the exact same level (hence the earlier 'really full'). You'll now know roughly how much fuel does roughly how many km's and so get a rough mpg.

Doesn't beat a long term study though........

NEWBIES - the MPG is an old thing guys and one question that won't ever go away. some of us older ones do write things with tongue firmly in cheek - but just remember - there's no such thing as a stupid question when you're new to something - so ask away, you will get serious answers most the time when one or two of the old guys are sober.

The next question one of you will be asking is about the flux capacitor that helps govern the speed/MPG. unfortunately, I'm not totally up on that being a bit of a dyslexic spanner man - but the others will help.

Now, that red button that has no label is a totally different thing guys - just be careful when and where you press it!! - You have been warned!
Can I just say I get 21 mpg around town and 25-26 on a run.

I've a gen 3 3.0 td. ABout 340 miles to a tank (I reckon I can push it to 350 miles). About 1/2 town and half on longer straighter roads.

Have noticed towing a boat trailer (1200kg ish) for a round trip of 120 miles, I managed 320-330 miles to a tank. It only seem extra weigh has a slight effect on economy.
