overdrive on autos

I have recently bought a surf 3.0 auto ssr-x ltd. So far I absolutly love it. Even though I have got a translated owners manual I think it slightly contradicts itself. Regarding the overdrive on/off button when should or should I use it please.

Press the button in/on, when driving over approx. 40mph. for better fuel economy.

Mine stays on all the time even when towing my caravan, no problems at all.

and mine only time i take it off so the light is on is to climb a steepish hill with the caravan in tow

thanx you guys for your replies. Like the picture of the bully shelly, I had to have mine put to sleep about 3 weeks ago. ( he was 15 and a half though ) he did real good.

to and from work (no motorways) i get better mpg having it off, pardon my french.

O/D ON everywhere - except in town where OFF may give marginally better mpg

Ahhh Marky, you'll confuse people, bringin in the ECT when they're tryin to figure out the O/D


I leave the O/D on (ie light off)
Turn on the ECT (ie light on) when I'm in the mood, but normally leave it off.
