    So 60L over 520Km that's 8.6L/Km or 24.5mpg. Now if you only used, say, 50L of fuel (full till the warning light comes on) then that's 29.4mpg which is much better. Problem is we don't know how exactly how much fuel you used.

    There have been some wild claims about mpg on the forum (re. EGR valve mod) in the past which were later disproved due to the methods used to calculate mpg.

    Next long journey do this:

    1) Fill up tank to the TOP (till you can SEE the diesel).
    2) Zero the clock.
    3) Drive.
    4) When nearly empty- fill up to the TOP again
    5) Note the clock reading and the amount of fuel (usually on the fuel receipt).
    6) Now assuming you've got 29.5" tyres as the odometer is calibrated to you can work the Litres per Km quite easily (for that particular journey).
    7) Then report back to the forum your mpg.

    It's the only way to find out accurately how far you got on certain volume of fuel.

      you cant say that cos the price varies

      Only just thought about bigger tyres messing it up
      All I can tell you I spent £45 on Saturday and drove in that horrible wind for about 150kms then towed in the wind untill i hit 380kms which was past the orange light stage. But then £45 was at a service station so was a rip off.....

          I get 12-16 mpg outta me V6
          (but the flip side is it's on LPG so £ for £ I get 30-40 mpg )

            How boring. Far more fun seeing how FEW miles you can get out of a tankful by hammering it everywhere. Muck bigger grin at the next fuel stop & better than poodling around like some old granny....

              I thought tanks were 55L?

              I'm Lucky to get 350Km!!!

              average 7Km per litre (useing Laser jocks method){which is the only one that works}
              Some have said I wear Divers boot on right foot though

              plus most of my travel is Motorway @ 85 Muglips per hour

              {PS I know one of our members is a cop!}

              My brain cant work this out:-

              If my 31" tyres give me 10% under reading of speed, wot effect have they on my MPH?

                  So- my data from 21,000km and 2500L of diesel (sh*t!) gives a LONG TERM AVERAGE of 23.77mpg. Don't kid yourselves- these cars are not particurlary fuel efficient- admittedly there are very few motorway miles here, mainly B roads, single track lanes, town journeys and weekend offroading.

                  Bear in mind that this data applies only to my engine, my driving style and my typical journeys.

                        Rember the first EGR mod debate on the old forum? This record was maintained in those days to see if the EGR mod really made any difference to mpg. It didn't. Last comment on the spreadsheet reads "EGR valve re-connected"!

                          Oh no. not the EGR mod! Mine has been disconnected for over a year now. Less smoky and a little more low end grunt. I did temporarily reconnect it and the James Bond style smoke screen came back.
