He does, and he's just showing off!

I get 450km's for £40 of Petrol in my 4Runner. (2.0 carbed motor with 225,000km on it)

but no one else has a 2lt Petrol truck, so no one to compare it with.

Only in the morning - would never get to work if I had to go up hill But I do fairly long runs (home-work = 32.5 miles) on decent roads

plus I guess you in a manual which helps.
I've always wondered what the 4.2TD engine is like to drive on a manual box.... I rekon you would only need one gear

This has been done to death, these motors are not frugal and mpg/km varys wildly between poor and terrible.
A positive attitude wont solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort!

                            Not that impressive really:

I'm assuming you here filled up, and zeroed the clock and carried on till you ran out of diesel? That is a tankfull- tank sizes vary but most are 60L capacity.

So 60L over 520Km that's 8.6L/Km or 24.5mpg. Now if you only used, say, 50L of fuel (full till the warning light comes on) then that's 29.4mpg which is much better. Problem is we don't know how exactly how much fuel you used.

There have been some wild claims about mpg on the forum (re. EGR valve mod) in the past which were later disproved due to the methods used to calculate mpg.

                            Next long journey do this:

                            1) Fill up tank to the TOP (till you can SEE the diesel).
                            2) Zero the clock.
                            3) Drive.
                            4) When nearly empty- fill up to the TOP again
                            5) Note the clock reading and the amount of fuel (usually on the fuel receipt).
                            6) Now assuming you've got 29.5" tyres as the odometer is calibrated to you can work the Litres per Km quite easily (for that particular journey).
                            7) Then report back to the forum your mpg.

It's the only way to find out accurately how far you got on certain volume of fuel.

I think it's dam well impressive to over 500k out of a 2.4 when most of us are lucky to sqeeze past the 400k mark!
