Hi guys, i have a 1996/97 Toyota Hilux surf gen3 with the 3.0l kzn185 intercooled engine it also has twin batteries.
My question is when the engine is running i presume there should be a voltage of around 13.5 volts going to the batteries like most cars. or have toyota got some sort of weird regulation...

I suspect the alternator (again).
The batteries where replaced about 9 months ago in Russia and have both been holding the correct charge (although one has always been about .3v higher than the other).
The car had the alternator bushes replaced in Morocco about 3 months...

alternator wobble?
just picked up a new (old) 3.0 Surf, but noticed the alternator which was recently relaced seems to vibrate quite a lot on what might be rubber mounts when ticking over. Is this normal for this engine? As I'm pretty sure anything with those sort of belts around it has been fixed in place on any...Last edited by boma23; 7 April 2012, 11:25.

One of the fan belts snapped and so I ordered two new ones from Roughtrax. What is a straight forward change has become a proper mission.
The alternator is loose and pushed down as far as it will travel on the adjusters/tensioners. The unbroken old belt came off easy, but the new belts...
