  • 2.4 Wanted, Preferrably in Ireland, but UK Cars Also Considered

Yeah, so Hellmett called it - I'm back. A little longer than 6 months, but here I am.

Tax & insurance over here rule out a 3.0 for me, so I'm looking for a good 2.4 - the later the better, no head/overheating trouble. Preferrably nice & clean - no body damage, nothing mechanical to sort to get running. Colour not important (except any ones with the wine-red interior), preferrably manual, but auto considered.

So what can you guys come up with for me?

If any Irish members (north or south) can help me out, obviously that'd suit best, but I'm open to looking at UK cars too.

    Thanks guys.

i got my 2.4 in as a crewcab commercial, have a look into it a bit, your boot has to be 45% of the wheelbase, i had to do a bit of bodging to get the full length but its saving me about 1100 a year on tax...

Cheers for that BigBobE. Will look into it.

Haven't they changed the taxing of pick-ups/crew cabs recently, where they're now considered passenger vehicles, liable to regular passenger tax?

Mine will carry passengers - my 3 young kids - fairly regularly, so I need to be 100% on the level, so to speak, specially regarding insurance - wouldn't want to find they won't pay up because of some technical crap.

They'll probably find some other reason not to pay up anyway?

Have you considered the 2.7 3rd gen? More smiles as well as miles per gallon.

2.7 petrol? I'd have thought that'd be thirstier, no?

3rd gen is from mid-93 on, yeah?

Guess I'll look into it - thanks.

3rd gens start at '96. You should be able to pick one up for the price of a tidy 3.0 2nd gen nowadays. The engine is the 3RZ-FE if you want to Google it to find out more.
Mine is a 2001 2.7 auto. The best mpg I've had out of it is 35mpg and that was all 'A' roads from south to north Wales and back, driving sensibly as I had my 18 month old in the back at the time. They are generally more economical than the diesels mainly because of the power to weight ratio is better.
It's the V6 models that have the drinking problems.
