  • 3rd Gen Rear Axle

My rear axle casing is so rusty, it's time for a replacement. Obvouusly looking for one which is not rusty! Needs to be the type with ABS.

FWIW I have a 2.7 petrol, manual, but I believe all 3rd Gens have the same back axle.

    Cheers

How desperate are you for the axle. I got one in a 3rd gen at the moment but unable to remove it until the vehicle is on hard ground.

      Thanks for your reply

No big rush, when might it be available? What sort of condition is it in please?

I got to clear the hard standing, but other things have slowed me down. Hope to be within next few weeks. I will check condition and let you know before then if I can get underneath and take some pics for you.

          Hi

That's great, look forward to seeing pictures. Would be interested in upper control arms if they are in good nick. Also a spare wheel winch if your's is not the swing-out type. If the underside of yours was really rust-free, there's me more bits I'd be interested in (tank filler pipes, tank stack pipes...) too.

          Cheers

Pics of rear axle. Surface rust as far as I can see. Same as on all Surfs I have had.

These are really really impossibly, mind bogglingly heavy.

Also any news on the hard standing being clear yet Rick?

The axle housing alone is about 30kg, not so bad.

With half shafts, drums, diff, it'll be around 100kg, not fun to move around!

                    I meant assembled.

                    I'm currently building/rebuilding one.

I just put the wheels on and roll it around while its together...

The empty ones are relatively easy to haul around as you say!

Sorry , I am still struggling to get the Surf onto solid ground. I have someone who wants the front suspension out as
well, so really need to get this done. If I hear of another suitable axle for you I will let you know, apologies for delay.

                            Are you still after this?

I have a good axle housing removed.

I have the Diff unit (separate)
and one driveshaft/brake assey (Can't remember which side)
All are separate and in bits ready to go.
                            More Lift.
                            More Tyres.
                            More Engine.
