  • KZN185 Driver door mirror

    Hi there

Happy new year first of all - wondered if anyone had a driver door mirror (folding type) for a 1996 SSRG for sale. Mine makes a strange grinding noise and doesnt move at all - passenger side is ok. One of those jobs that has been needing attention for a while now. Or any advice on how I might take it to bits to find the problem (bit wary of this as not so good mechanically)

Is it stuck in the open or folded position?

Its in the open position - been like this since I bought it (will move a little but dont want to force it)

It's probably been knocked in the past and the gears that open and close it have skipped a few teeth. Switch it to fold mode and just give it a nudge to help the gears mesh and it should sort itself out.

Ta - just given that a try but - feels like there is hardly any grip at all on the teeth - is there any easy way to take the mirror off and see the workings? maybe the teeth are stripped?

On the underside of the mirror housing, there are a couple of cross head screws to remove the cover.

Thanks - got the cover loosened off - is there a connection somewhere behind the door trim that would allow me to disconnect the power supply and take the mirror off completely? Appreciate your help on this.

Just made an attempt at removing the door card but stumped now! have done the following:

Removed the screw in the centre of the door handle and slid it forward so that it is loose.

Remove the lecy window and mirror control panel

Taken off the padded armrest part and the two screws behind this

Taken off the 2 plastic pop out clips from the edge of the door panel

But I still cant get it to budge - wary of using too much force but maybe this is what it needs - any advice greatly received. Cant see anything else holding it on but thats not so say there isnt!

Sorted - just me being a p*ssy and not pulling the bottom of the door card hard enough. Got the mirror off and stripped down, problem is there are two small screws that hold the motor with the worm drive in place - one screw missing so worm drive not connecting with the mechanism to fold them in. Reckon it might be some super glue as its impossible to get at these, if I could find one that fits. Hopefully will have 2 folding mirrors in the next while. Just hope it all goes back together again!
