Looking for an underfloor wheel carrier for a 92 Surf. Would either buy it or swap for a rear mounted carrier.

I'd be interested in the swap, what colour's your tailgate? as i'd need the tailgate for a rear mounted spare too, obviously swap for my current one if the colour's are the same, does anyone know if the pillar will need reinforcing to take a rear mounted carrier if it wasn't factory fitted also?=========

Theres a problem here....... Mine never had the rear carrier so I just bought the parts for it with the intention of fitting them. Trouble is that the tailgate has been customised (smoothed out) and having now got the bits I've decide that to fit them is going to be more trouble than its worth on a road car.Comment

might still be interested if i can get a tailgate and make sure the pillars ok or reinforce it if necessary. I take it it was sourced off a breaker so it's a original toyota factory fit one?=========

It has to be reinforced inside the pillar to take the tailgate fitting. You can't just bolt it on.Comment

Well depending on the answers to the above i may or may not still be interested.
See if anyone breaking in the parts for sale has got what you want, as i think i might reconsider and think about fabbing up a heavy duty rear bumper with a carrier built into that, it might be easier than swapping tailgates over and reinforcing the pillar and suchlike anyway=========
