Fair enough, it is all subjective. The original looks a bit flat to me, not washed out, just a tad flat. I can`t see the exif so don`t know what camera you use, but most digital photographs need tweaking a little , very few are right straight out of the camera. I don`t spend a huge amount of time processing photos, some are obsessive about it though...
I use CS5, but elements or Paint shop are good enough for most usage. Gimp and Picasa are ok for freebie software.
It's not straight out of the camera. I tweaked the shadows and highlights, then adjusted the contrast. I was trying to get an HDR-ish look. It was actually quite light under the canopy because the trees are so tall and quite far apart.
HDR, definate marmite stuff there. I think CS has a built in HDR tool or you could try photomatrix. What you need to do in either case is open the shot adjust the exposure by -2 then save as -2, do the same for -1,1,+1 and +2, then blend all five shots using whichever HDR software you get.
Getting the effect out of one image is impossible as far as i`m aware. Happy to be corrected on that point as I am firmly in the don`t like HDR camp.Unless it is done very well and discretely.
The HDR tool in Photoshop is horrible; Photomatix is the only way to go, to be honest. I'm in the other camp - I love an over-the-top HDR image but it has to be good. I'll link some extraordinary stuff later. My wife's working from home today so I can't get to my PC 'til 5-ish.
Yeah, that's pretty cool. It's not like the usual HDR stuff, either.
You should come and join us on the The Photography Forum, mate; they'd love your stuff on there.
I`m on a couple of photography forums, they all seem to be full of people intent on arguing about petty little things to be honest. I like our own little wildlife forum, very easy going and friendly.
Not sure if it is Ok to link it on here, but here goes.Don`t think it will ever effect this place.
