Went out with these guys yesterday http://www.fourwheeldriveclub.com/
and did the Herts/Essex TOR Roadbook. They're a nice bunch and the organisers try and make it accessible for those who have never done it before (a couple of people were in unmodded PAJ's and were given advice for each obstacle and alternative routes to avoid the worst ones.
Route covers lots of fords including the longest in the UK (1/2 mile long) only shame was its been so damn dry this week that some of the fords were pretty low and there was no mud meaning some of the lanes were deep ruts with solid earth between that made sickening scraping noises as my diffs gouged a hole in them (ooh an excuse for larger tyres!)
Having said that the one person who got stuck was the one with the most modded vehicle there with huge muds on. As the tyres were that bit wider they jammed in the ruts with the side walls doing exactly what they were meant to and biting in, but to the point where they wouldn't come out again which resulted in knackered tracking and lots of clutch smoke.
Thanks to Biohazard for the snorkel as it meant that I was able to go through the deepest parts that many avoided and thanks to all who gave waterproofing tips.
Very proud of the Surf, did it all without a hiccup and my newly vaseline'd door seals didn't let in a drop of water.
However, although its a club for all makes of 4x4 it was overrun with Paj's and I was the only Surf so if anyone fancies one of their other outings it would be good to have some others there to show this lot exactly what Toyboatas can do.
Video is here - my surf going for a swim is near the end http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRtKXS9JkQE
