    Evening all

We're staying up near Lake Vyrnwy for a Week in the New Year. I've got an OS map of the area (gonna be doing a bit of mountain biking) anyone recommend a gentle, newbie friendly greenlane in the area or should I just explore some gentle looking bridleways.

    Cheers

your in the middle of greenlane heaven there, theres over a hundred lanes in the area, make sure you have a 2007 os map so you will have a better idea as to what is legal. enjoy

          Pssst.

DONT whatever you do drive on bridleways. It's illegal, and being in Wales the bobblehats will report you with lightning maliciousness and the local fuzz will overreact and take you truck, handing it back as a 2ft cube.

Dont wanna be a killjoy either, but if you dont know the lane is easily passable by your truck and ability, dont do it alone, or you might succumb to a disease known as Lovely Boyo Syndrome and end up stuck miles from anywhere.

There may well be someone from the forum who feels like a day out, so not only can you tackle maybe more challenging lanes in confidence, you'll have the banter and compatriotship that comes from laning with others

                Thanks for that Guys, appreciated.

I didn't know it was illegal to drive on bridleways, I assumed as you could cycle them, you'd be able to drive on them. I'd best do some googling

Thanks for the MTB tips too, I've only done Brechfa so far.
I may be able to give a forestry commision one a go but its going to depend on what time I'll have as it will be when I slip out first thing in the morning and put some miles in before the family wake up.

If I find some legal greenlanes that are nice and gentle on the MTB then we may take the truck down a couple but I'll wait for a forum run then before doing anything serious in it

                Cheers

We got a few lanes here in kent, the sussex mob are going to organise a trip on their lanes in the next few months too aren't ya :HINT:

There's also a run round dorking/leatherhead or somewhere over there in the new year.

Never know i might even get tempted to organise another local lanes day sometime soon.

It's the voices, they keep telling you to come back. www.hiluxsurf.co.uk actually reads as 'free porn, no membership required' in the native language of the voices. And if that doesn't get em the psycho-subliminal messages will. The squirrel vs yeti banter it's all part of the master plan, it draws the voices and they bring you in, it's like crack cocaine to them though, after the first hit you just need more and more and each hit has to be bigger and last longer. In the end you just become a surf junkie, and post at all times of day and night, waiting, just waiting and watching for the infidels, they're easily recognised by the vehicles they drive.

Where are you staying when you are there? My folks run B&B not too far from there.....

As Apache said - DON'T try the route if you're not sure of it - some of them are really challenging and even the best drivers on this forum wouldn't do them alone - especially in the winter!!

I can send you some loctions on Memory Map - but you really need to be careful if you are planning to go out by yourself......you would be much better off getting someone to go with you - when in the new year are you planning on going???

Its a stone cottage on its own, emarassingly enough I don't even know what its called but the owner (Diane) runs a B&B at Vyrnwy a mile or 2 away.

Is memory map a GPS thing? if its a pc thing then yes if you wouldn't mind sending a couple then that'd be great but I don't have a GPS unit.

The plan is to check out the lanes on my MTB and if I find one thats smooth and easy (and I really mean the sort of thing a transit could tackle at a push) then we'll have a day out "off roading" but I won't tackle anything that I could get stuck on.
Even then though I spose we shouldn't really because if we break down the recovery firm won't venture from tarmaced surfaces if I remember correctly
Mind you, the owners hubby has a defender 90 pick-up, I'm sure he'd be only too glad to venture out in the freezing cold over the festive season to rescue a customer

If I only find really rough, dodgy looking lanes then at least I'll have some fun on the mountain bike

As for when, I don't know really. We'll be up for the first week in the New Year so sometime then but probably after New Years day.

                            Cheers
