best get a raindance going, there was one mudhole on that route right near the end on one of the crundale lanes, steep entry and exits, mud was only a foot or so deep, but the bonnet of the disco that went through was covered, potential for damage if you ask me, so i didn't do it. Would've done normally but just didn't fancy it when i was planning a service this week and the truck had stayed pretty clean right up until then.

let's continue on this thread, instead of 3 different threads.

Aye I may be up for it, although I'd prefer the non damaging/scratchy but technically challenging routes if poss

I'll see what i can do for you mate, tip: if you don't want scratches don't try the lane that runs eastmost of the two lanes from crundale church to hassell street, or the one the other sid of the road that goes hassell street to coombe manor. Or the lane from burn't house farm up the side of the glider club to squids gate, east of charing.

I know my truck is a bit of a shed, but the paint's not in bad nick, I did hea of people putting sticky backed plastic on their trucks to prevent scratches, so that may be an option if I can find some, maybe in a tartan or somat?

                Mmmmmmmmm.......Tartan surf,

mate, i understand, you've seen the state of my truck, but even i thought some of saturday's lanes were too scratchy. There was a guy in a mint LWB pajero hi roof with us, and a guy in a soft top can't remember if it was a vitara or SWB paj. I felt sorry for them big time. The softtop guy decided it was safer to keep the top down all day.

It looked as though someone had put wire brushes on a car wash and driven it through when we finished. Nothing that didn't polish out though, hence my shiny club application last night.

It's not the small twigs that worry me too much, but those ones that are as thick as your little finger, and just don't bend, they leave marks that need an electric polisher and some "T-cut" to fix.

I like the technical stuff, like strata and sarn helen, but we just ain't got that down ( over) here, I do like the rocky stuff though, with a little mud thown in for unpredictability, and some nice steep hills, I think we had one of those the last time I came out with you.

Right just had a look at the map, there are quite a few north of M20 J4. don't know any of them though, but i'll contact summinelse as he's not far from there and may know some of them. From there we could also drop down to ditton for a wash off in the ford, or come down the pilgrims way afterwards. So that's a possibility.

There's also some round the crowborough area, which i fancy, but need to look in more detail and see if i can link them up with folkington and any other lanes round there, or come back up towards the rolvenden lanes without spending too much time on the road.

Aye that's on one of the crundale lanes, but they've filled in the gulley that used to run down it. That was one of my favourite lanes. It's still nice but not the same, instead of a gulley it's now a series of steps. There's just nothing else even slightly technical round here though, or if there is i haven't found it yet. It's either wide open flat stuff, tight and scratchy flat stuff, or there used to be a few muddy ones, but everytime i go back to one of them it's been type 1ed. Hell some of the byways are smoother than some of the roads round here now.

In the Village I was born in, and lived in for 35 years, there were a number of farm tracks that run between fields and into some woodland where the army used to trai, but as I was local, and known by all the farmers, I was ok to use them sensibly ( in my old series 3)

Maybe I'll go back over that way soon, and see if they are still useable, and maybe even check if thay qualify as byways ( for motor vehcles?) as they are ased by the farmers on a daily/weekly basis.

Although as I remember, they are only any good after heavy rain when they get muddy, as in the summer they are just dust tracks.

Might be worth a reccy though.

That post has just reminded me about some land i was told about before i even got a 4x4, somewhere above St. Margaret's bay. Apparently ex-mod land, that you can get on by paying the current land owner.

hhmmmm.... I will have to do some investigating....

your an observant bugga aint yer . erm just looked at where u was suggesting and theres a couple of good lanes around great buckland ones short but ok other ones quite long and got a few little off shoots for more challenging bits only been down it on my own so just stuck to main path which in april march was quite nicely flooded. the there are a few lanes round there shut because of the euro star route now passes through it.
there used to be a blinding lane at bredhurst very near me but the last time i looked at klass (kent laning association) webbie locals were going nutz at $$$$s tearing it up and making bomb runs through foot path areas. so not sure if its still open. but as far as technical or steep goes only fun i seen like that is challock canturbury way im afraid.
llyd off road circuit i was told is quite challenging got loads of rocks but never seen it through anyfing other than pics from klass.
