    Likely agenda for the weekend

    Hi folks,

The hard bit has been done !!! We have an agreed date - 11/12th May and we have agreed to go camping and we have enough names to make it happen.

I will spend the next few weeks sussing out sites, but we may be staying closer to Brecon than Llandovery.

Friday 11th - meet somewhere along the M4 by about mid day then get to Neath and do Sarn Helen to Brecon - green laning. Set up camp and have a BBQ that evening.

Sat 12th - Strata Florida, maybe via Llyn Brianne. Maybe visit Llanddewi Brefi and look for Daffydd. I will make sure any tougher sections will be passable for those not wanting to risk too much damage. Saturday evening probably pub meal.

Sunday 13th - break camp and wander home.

I will keep you all informed.

If the camping is at Brecon, there's no need for me to come down to the M4 just to go back up.

If there's any midlanders coming over, I'll meet up with them and meet the rest of you at the site. Just give me a postcode nearer the time.

Just a bit of a bump to keep all informed.

The camping is likely to be Llandovery as large sections of the area around Brecon are off limits (Army firing range!).

I have been around a few routes and am meeting a local 4x4 guide at the end of this week (to blatantly pick his brains).

I have also bought a large scale map off Ordnance Survey select. Brilliant idea - you click on a grid reference of your choice and they print it off for you.

I'll post when I have some more info - just mark the date in your diary - it is happening.

If the global warming predictions are anything to go by there won't be any MUD.

Even the river crossings I've planned are likely to be little more than trickles.

Oh well, we'll just have to enjoy the beer instead!

Well, I have several criteria for the routes. I have to consider ability, willingness to get down and dirty, availability of winches, distance, depth of water etc

                    oh and

number of real ale pubs on the route! (mmmmm, beeeerrrr)

ps - I LOVE real ale - everything else is just pants

                      Talking my language now.

My order of priority is a bit different :-

                      1) Large quantity of ale
                      2) Big barbecue
                      3) Sunshine

... oh yeah, and maybe a bit of offroading.

                              Amazing Strata Florida

                              OK chaps and chapesses.......

Today I drove the route we are taking on the Saturday of our expedition.

Llandovery, Abergwesyn, by way to Strata Florida Abbey = 8 river crossings including a river drive.

I used my road tryes and made it no probs.

The route is out of this world. Tough but do-able for the shinies with lots of little off road extreme stuff right next to the main track.

I then drove the scenic route back to Llandovery via a pretty little town called Tregaron, over the mountain track to Llyn Brianne Reservoir - bring your cameras because the views and scenery are fantastic.

PS - And I found some pubs along the way = everyone happy.

Sounds great - and looks impressive on the map too. Thanks for all your work - I'm really looking forward to it!

Have you had to get permission for any stretches - we'll be a fair sized convoy and I'd hate to incurr the wrath of any Welsh farmers (having had a few run-ins in the past just for walking in the wrong place!!!) They have shotguns and killer sheep you know
                                where's this bit go then?
