I'm afraid Wayfinder is a database, which gives a list of grid references for the waypoints on the lanes. you then need to sit and do the boring bit of marking up - geting a OS map and penciling in the lanes

You should try driving to some of the out lying villages ie Cliffe, Higham, Hoo, Cooling etc.( only about 12 miles from you)

There are quite a few tracks and lanes suitable for mild to moderate off roading.

I normally go up to bredhurst woods just on the other side of hempstead but ramblers and locals have associated fellow 4x4ers with fly tippers and have caused all amounts of problems. going to get an OS map tomorrow see how i get on.

There's a definite green lane curving across the woods at Bredhurst - I would advise checking with the ROW officer BEFORE venturing through, just in case some meanie may have placed a TRO in the lane.

Anyone fancy a pay and play day at woodlands on sunday?

            see http://www.woodlands4x4.ic24.net

Wemt last month, was good fun and the then standard surf coped ok with all the white routes and some red. Worth a laugh just to watch landies and zooks on the black routes.

there is basically, no such thing. The best you can do is OS maps and find byways open to all traffic (BOATS) on them, marked as lines made up of green crosses on 1:25000 explorer maps, or red crosses on the 1:50000 scale landranger maps. Then find your local council Rights of Way office phone number and ring them to check the lanes are still open and don't have Traffic Restriction Orders in place on them.

There is also a map on the KCC website at http://extranet7.kent.gov.uk/explorekentgis/map.aspx however, it's fiddly to use and not kept up to date, there are lanes marked on there that have been closed for 12 years+, and lanes not marked on there that are open, so you stilll need to ring the RoW office to check what you find on there anyway. It's the byways you are looking for on there which should be highlighted brown, but as i said it's not very up to date.

The number for the high halden RoW office which i use and they seem to cover most of kent is 01233 820797.

If you're struggling to find lanes still let me know and i may be able to give a few more pointers.
