They have been having a clampdown on ilegal riders form using the quary but eveyone there was legal.
The council advertise this route for mountain bikers but not 4x4's http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/environ...g/mountain.asp
I have used the quarry for over 12 years and I'm noy going to stop using it because of some power happy police.
There have been arguments in the local paper with the pros and cons for using this place for off roading but that seems to have died down now.. might be a good idea to get the argument going again...-=I swear to drunk I'm not god=-

The nice Police Officer told us that it was private land & we had no right to be there 2 Offroad poicemen came onto the Quarry on Motorbikes
and told us to leave right away. We then went to BARTON & a good afternoons offroading.Last edited by marky; 15 January 2006, 19:41.(\__/)

Story we found out with the quarry is:
Rooley Moor Road is fine for travelling across, the quarry [seen as common land - hence private] belongs to the lord of the manor [whos in New Zealand] and doesn't want anyone to be in there.
Rangers had a talk with us and said the police may be around. Although the fun was spoilt the two coppers on bikes were okay...they didn't see any problem with us being in the quarry as no damage was being doing to other land...but their hands were forced and hence kicked us off.
We were parked up later on [down near the ash pit] as instructed by the two coppers on bikes for our B-B-Q and some guy started videoing us and called the police. Ended up stopping and arguing with him about rights of way over the moor and explained to the two coppers in th epolice car what had gone on. They were fine as we were packing up and driving away.
More of words in the ears than any booking

Golly,
If you think you are ****ed off you should see what is happening to some law abiding trail bikers. at least you still have your truck and you aren't going to court.
if you tell me the grid reference of the quarry and the grid reference of the start of the lane (or some other info so I can find it on the map) I might be able to find some info on 'wayfinder' about the legal status of the route.
If you have a legal right to be there then you need to be able to tell the police that

The grid ref of the quarry is SD84674 18672, but the cops had no problem with us using the lane to and from the quarry just that they said that the quarry itself is owned by some lord who is living in Australia and who hasn't given permission for anyone to use it.
It's funny how they can look after the property of someone living at the other side of the world but if someone blocks your drive try calling them out then.Laugh!!! I nearly bought my own beer.
