just had new shells fitted to the crank (engine was nocking on bottom end) new brake pads fitted two rear wheel cylinders oil and filter change on the sj for £90 cant be bad just a shame the surf aint so cheap

I got my SJ for £200. Never buy blind off eBay.
It stood me at just over £900 by the time I had done the welding, suspension and bodywork mods. I went to use it in anger for only the second session of off road fun and found the engine to be FUBAR. I was given a second engine. The head is fine. Everything else to spec but two cylinder bores got water in them and are badly pitted.
I got the SJ because I didn't want to keep damaging the Surf. I think I would have had to go some to do £1000 worth of damage to the Surf!
Looking on the bright side - I probably wouldn't have attacked the Surf with an angle grinder and had so much fun!
It's only a hobby!
