  • Help on nissan skyline

A mate of mine finally decided to get an import ,but not the one i told him too.He thought he was being smart by buying a nissan skyline and is now having a few little probs.

Hes got a 2.5 gts with evry conceivable electric gizmo you can imagine and it is seriously fast. However when the engine has warmed up and he tries to accelerate the car struggles to pick up and vibrates. Is this likely to be an air starvation problem or injector problem. I said i would ask as you guys know a lot about everything.

    cheers for your help

    Hi Mike and Colin.
My first bit of advise is to take the car straight to a garage specialising in high performance cars and preferably japanese. the reason being is that it probably has twice as many gizmo`s fitted than you think as a lot of them wont be visible just lifting the bonnet and the japanese realy know how to modify a skyline. it could be many different things including stuff that might of been fiddled with whilst being transported by idiots looking under bonnet and light fingered individuals hoping to whip something off for their own car.
it could have a boost control (in dash or under bonnet) thats been wound right down, could be set up to run on very high octane fuel not normally available on uk forecourts, could be jets as you say and could even be electronic fault on any one of gizmo`s fitted ( piggy back ecu perhaps). but the fact is that you could spend an eternity fault finding and not get any further as you dont have the right equipement and probably dont have a detailed list of the modifications made. the very best of luck with the car and i`m very jealous as when i eventualy can afford to run two cars then i`ll be after a skyline myself.

      Thanks Ian

Its basically what I told him,so it looks lke it could be costing him a few bob.

Its a cracking looking car and you right about all the gizmos,I looked under the bonnet and didnt recognise what i was looking at .

You could be right about the fuel too as Colin said he was having trouble getting the right grade fuel for the car.

      Ill let him know

      thanks for the help

Have you tried the skyline forums, they're a helpful bunch, maybe one of them has experienced this before

They also had some funny speed limiters set on in Japan... so the advise is a specialist that really knows these imported cars... and the electronnics that are available for them... specialist mags and forums good place to start. Check out the importers of these add-ons... Blitz, Greddy, HKS... etc...

If it only struggles/shudders when warm it sounds like fuel starvation as the coolant temp sender for ECU would allow over fuel like a choke on warm up . Fuel pressure check , and fuel line clear out may show something . Also may have a leak in the inlet manifold gasket (drawing air) or a split in air trunking , if fitted, between air flow meter and inlet manifold .

I will think a bit more for you , but some points to consider .
