  • Picked up the new Zook.

We picked up the new Zook on Sunday. I have some work to do on it. The brake master cylinder seals need replacing as the pedal goes right to the floor. There is no sign of leaking callipers.
The inner and outer sills are shot, so I am on the lookout for some chequer plate replacements. Surprisingly the floor is absolutely solid. The rear arches have been plated.
There is a really rusty o/s wing which has been filled with expanding foam. I will look out for a replacement.
On the plus side it has 6" shackles. On the minus side the shackles look home made and have no brace to tie them together.
It is fitted with Technics Trackers which have plenty of meat on them.

There is a problem with the carb. I think it might be that the slow idle jet is blocked, as there is no inline fuel filter and it will not tickover at less than 1500RPM.
Mrs KS will be back at work tomorrow. I have earned some brownie points by cutting the front and back grass, doing all the weeding and cleaning the moss off the patio. I will take some picks of the beast and have a tinker with it.
    It's only a hobby!

hi mate - i think I need seals for the master cylinder too. bled the system a few times and still no response unless you pump the pedal a few times.
brake fluid all over the MC so I presume the seals are knackered....
still, the new (breakers) alternator has arrived and looks good so I can fit that soon when my back is better. All we need now is a new starter!
Any idea what Vauxhall/GM one might fit a 413?

The only GM part that I know of that will fit an SJ is the Astra Mk2 shock absorbers. Not much help really am I?

Too right! Mrs KS will be safely out of the way from about 6.30AM. I will be up at about 7 and playing. Of course when she comes in I will be fitting the kitchen curtain rod and I will be allowed out to play cos I have been good.

I have my eye on a new Vitara one instead as ADK Suzuki spares (top bloke) doesnt have starters often any more.

The first time you put an expensive scratch in your pride and joy!

I found that the pennance for one days off roading with the Surf was three weeks of cleaning/fixing things and then it was time to play off road again. It is my daily driver.
Mind you, I towed the Zook to the Pit on my home made A-frame last Sunday. I gave a couple of my nephews mates a lift home and was explaining that one of the reasons for having the Zook was that I would only have to give the tyres a clean on the Surf. They started laughing. The rotten buggers didn't tell me that I had left the tailgate window open and that lumps of mud off the Zooks tyres were hitting them on the back of the head!!!!!!!!!

The book says put tow with gearbox in neutral, 2WD with the front wheels off the ground, unless you have free-wheeling hubs and for a maximum of 12 miles. Saying that Sumo towed one from Hampashire to Suffolk with no apparant ill effects. I towed mine the long way round to the Pit with all four wheels down and no free-wheeling hubs. Again no apparant damage. You takes your chance I suppose.
