  • !!!!!! Zook

Went to Devils Pit this afternoon (it was supposed to be this morning but it's a long story). Took the beast gently round the top bit to warm up properly before attempting anything too tricky and the temperature guage shot off the scale. The pressure had pushed the bottom hose off and dumped all the water. The rad was stone cold so I assumed that the thermostat hadn't opened. We removed the stat refilled with water and burped it but there was no flow at all, so it looks like the water pump has packed up.
It's not all bad news. It tows like a dream on the A-Frame so at least I'll be able to take it to the scrapyard!!!!!
Oh, I paid to get in and it has a full tank of petrol. The egg burger was nice though!

If you have had enough tow it this way , we could possibley use it for spares for ours .

May just have an airlock . Most rear mounted rad Zooks need burping . Worse then a Surf for air locks !!
Fit a Renault aux water pump in the system . They are electric and will pump the coolant round without the engine running so no burning your self when filling .Or if there is a high point in the pipe work to the rear drill a hole in the pipe and fit a bleed valve of some sort . If a metal pipe then a nut welded on with a bolt to blank it would do .

We gave the beast a good burping. We took the top hose off when we refilled and didn't put it on until water came out of there. The capacity of the cooling system has increased to about two and a bit gallons with all the extra pipework. Someone at the Pit said that he has seen a lot of Zook water pumps come to grief when rear mounted radiators are as high as mine is on the back. I'm just wondering if the pumps can handle lifting the water that high?
I have a confession to make. It's much easier now I have plucked up the courage to tell Mrs KS......................... I have bought another Zook. It's an SJ413 that has had all the welding done and apparantly needs little work to get it MOT'd. I have to go to Colchester to pick it up. I am wondering if I should use the A-frame or my brothers lorry.
The plan is to nick the 410 transfer box for the new one to reduce the gearing and fit some 31" grizzly claws to give it some virtual lift, so there may be some SJ410 bits available to those that need them. Watch this space_________________________

I put the 410 on eBay in the end and sold it at a loss. The ironic thing is that I delivered it to the guys that bought it (at least they were generous with the diesel money), as it was only about 10 miles away and they started it up. They left it running while we were chatting and I warned them again that the water pump didn't work. One of the guys took it and thrashed it down the private lane by his house and came back. The temperature guage had reached half way and stopped. I felt the the top and bottom hoses to the rear rad and they were both hot. DOH!They are as pleased as punch with their bargain.

At least I have some folding stuff to spend on the new Zook
