Hi I thought I would try to get an answer here very quite in here the last few days...
I bought my truck not really knowing alot about it apart from I had to have one... I am not sure if I can do a body lift on it as it apears to be quite high already. It has BFGoodrich 31x10.50 on and has wing extentions for the wheels. In the tech forum I asked how do you work out if the body has been raised. I am unsure of the shocks as there do not seem to be any writing on them. when I got the spare tyre out I found that it is a lot smaller them the BFGS and I wondered if it had had a lift ?
    Thanks for any help

Hehe - its been quiet coz Tony's been in Wales for a fortnight!!

The majority of early 2.4's came out of the factory with 215/70/15 tyres as standard. I suspect this is the case with yours if the spare is significantly different in size to the other tyres.
The truck will take 31x10.50x15 BFG's without any sort of lift, we have done that on our grey truck.
The unusual thing about your truck is that it has wide arches as this in not standard in a 1990 2.4 This may mean that other anlterations have been done.
The best bet is to measure the height from top of the wheel to bottom of the arch, then people with lifts can compare to theirs. I think mine (with +2" susp lift) is about 13" -( I will check tonight for you.)
On the shocks - do they still have the ability to alter the ride hard to soft on the button in the cab? If so this might indicate that they are original toyota shocks as most people here tend to use Procomps which are not adjustable. (It is poss to get aftermarket adjustable shocks but is seen less often)
A good way to see if a body lift has been done is to look at the distance between the chassis rails and the body (the real wheel arch is a good place to check - if not lifted then the space will be about an inch or less)
post some pics up of the various bits and people can give you more info.

I think it's something to do with the length of the Bonnet. I'm sure the Freudians can come up with an explanation.

Plus actually the Surf punches way above it's weight anyway but has the benefit of being narrower than some 4x4s so it's actually useable on the lanes whilst being long enough to get all the stuff you want in the back.

Mine with no lift is 21" from middle of wheel to bottom of wheelarch at the front and 20" at the rear (bit of bum sag, soon to be rectified). I also run 31" tyres.

The Surf widebody came standard with 265x70x15 tyres on, 31" was a factory option and a popular modification.

On a 1990 model year it would have originally been a narrow body with the smaller tyres so the wheelarch extensions are an add on that have been fitted later.

          Cheers
