  • Diff Drop KZN 185 3rd Gen to save CV Boots/joints

    Hi All,

    I've just bought a 3rd gen 1996 Surf with a 2" Roughtrax suspension lift and a 2" body lift.

The CV Boots seem to be struggling due to the increased angle of the CV joint?

The two (reasonably easy) solutions I've read about are to fit free wheeling hubs or lower the diff.

However, I've seen a post from TonyN saying that fitting free wheeling hubs is far from simple on the 3rd gens, as requires a whole bunch of other bits and pieces running up to over £1k

Has anyone lowered the diff, or know where I could get a bracket to do so?

Is this a relatively simple job?
(I know it slightly defeats the object of the lift, but I'm not gonna be doing any serious offroading)

Are there any otherways to improve the situation?

    THanks

I lowered my diff, using the 4Crawler kit..

Really easy, the most fiddly bit was re fitting the bash plate with the slightly longer bolts and spacer shims, but thats's not exactly brain surgery!!

I also fitted some "High angle CV Boots" for good measure.

    Its not leaked since!
    More Lift.
    More Tyres.
    More Engine.

A few minutes!! Hard to tell because I did it at the same time as my body lift, and front ARB drop.

I put the longer bolts in first, fitting one side before the other was undone so it didn't fall (and it was easier than using a jack, and bits of wood).
        More Lift.
        More Tyres.
        More Engine.
