  • Instrument cluster bulbs

I took my cluster out today to see about changing the bulbs to a different colour. I feel green looks really crap and I do a lot of night driving so want something more appealing to the eye.

Can someone confirm the bulbs that are in there? The big ones look like 501's and I am not sure about the small ones.

Also does anyone have any pictures of dials they have changed? I didn't find anything with the search.

I was thinking ether white bulbs or red ones but I am not sure. Might as well replace them with SMD's.

The big lamps are T-10, the small ones ate T-5.

Don't use LEDs, the beam angle is too narrow.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

      Thanks for that.

Even the newer wide angle/multiple stack LED's?

I wouldn't use them for dashboard lights, they are too patchy. Unless you use lots of them...

I reccomend the white plasma type dials,

Too young to die and too old to give a toss

I have seen those type of dials before. I do like them but I feel they are a bit out of place in a Hilux with its age. I had some white lockwood dials with a laser blue illumination in my Peugeot which looked really good but it wouldn't suit it IMO.

The bulbs in the dash are only covered by a rubber sleeve, easy too peal off, then use paint or something to coat them whatever colour you like.....

I would have but a couple have blown since took them off. I will just buy some red ones and have done with. Good idea though, I do have some red tail light tinting spray.

Just a follow up. The bulbs I bought were crap. The paint on the bulbs burnt off after a few weeks. Should have known I know people who have put coloured sidelight bulbs in before and had the same effect.

If I deicide to change them again I will put some decent SMD's in, I have faith in them.

I'll beg to differ on the LED's,as I have done some research on them.

I like the look at the bottom of this thread:
