Bought one of these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165489
from Halfrauds last year, but!, because its got a flexi/bendy neck part it kept working loose from the cig lighter!!
SO today i had to fix my speedo which means taking half the dash apart,
While i was there (replaced speedo with a spare, added new white dials, tinted needles red) i decided to take apart the usb adapter and see if i could locate it where the ashtray should be!!
Removed the ashtray completely including the screws and threaded parts holding the slide frame to the dash trim,
Drilled a hole in the back part cos the adapter is slightly too long and i needed to thread the cables thru!
added some spade connectors to the wires from the adaptor, then cable tied it in position using the two screw holes for the ashtray
Then filled under / round it with "sticks like" (a form of gripfill)
Left it to go off while i had a large fry-up
Wired the positive to a permanent live (from the radio loom) via an inline 7.5a fuse.
Took the negative thru the dash and fitted a simple on off switch on the right of the ignition!
(permanent live enables me to use/charge things without the ign being on, but there is a blue backlight on the unit that i don't want on all the time)
With the dash replaced here's the results of today's efforts!
