Can someone remind me what the difference is between the ES1000s and the ES3000s.
I know one is gas and the other oil, but which is which and whats the difference really?

ES1000-ok, ES3000-good, ES9000-better. The you go up to MX range for racing apps.

The ES9000's self extend and are the nuts, the 3000's are neutral and stay where you put them, they are usually good standard equivilents, I've never fitted ES1000's to anything, they looked like lego shocks! I got a set for a pickup once, but didn't bother fitting them and got 3000's.

I liked Procomp shocks, they are superb value for money, they go rusty in time and the paint is a little rubbish, but they are 1/2 the price of any other good aftermarket shock.

Ive got the Lego ones (1000s) fitted to my Tonka (Jimny) and need to replace.
Was looking for a bit more comfort for on-road use.
Was thinking the 3000s were oil filled?

I'm curious about this also, mine has after market replacements ?(china- no name brand) wich are more or less topped out with the +2" springs would like something better.

I thought pro comps were like hens teeth at the minute because I'd rather have them than the monroe ones on roughtrax. I'm just about ready to purchase some so if anybody can tell me where to get them I would be most grateful.

Sorry, for got that bit, technically, ES1000's are just oil filled, ES3000's are cellular gas charged oil and the ES9000's are nitrogen gas charged. the 3000 and 9000 are twin tube bodys so hold more oil than the 1000 so it dosn't get as hot, and i think the 9000 has beefier valves and piston than the 3000.

Basically they all get slightly firmer up the range, but also slightly better regarding temp induced loss of damping as they get hotter with more abuse.

I think, but not sure that the gas is an insert in the 3000 is as well as the oil, not instead of, they say to keep the oil under pressure when shock is extending. The 9000's being nitrogen should be different as most nitrogen shocks mix the oil and gas to stop foaming of the oil as it goes through the valves. But this is only what I've read over the years.

              sorry Si,
Ive only found them for a Jimny on a Suzuki specific shop site

saying that, I much prefer my Monroes on my Surf to the Procomp 3000s I had on my last one. For ride comfort

Right, i thought the procomps were the ones to have but if the monroes are just as good then i might go for them.

I've got Desert Foxes on the rear of the 3rd gen, they're made in Australia and very similar to Pro-comps.

                          Just to clarify
I have Monroes on the front and Desert Fox on the back.
Both bought from Roughtrax as part of a 3rd gen lift package.
Both brands are great, but I dont offroad

I've had trouble with the washers supplied with these, the nuts pull through them easily when the axle is hanging. Use the old Toyota washers or limit straps on the shocks if you're going offroad alot. It's happened on 2 or 3 trucks recently.

TBH, I preferred the Procomps, or spend extra money on TJM's.

                              Tony,

I´ve read about the TJM´s before... How do they ride?
Are they worth the extra money, and where can I source a set?

                              Thanks...
