    i was wondering why exactly do you need to drop the rad on a 2.4 and just remove the bottom cowling on the 3.0, can you just remove the bottom cowling on the 2.4

    Because the 2.4 doesn't have a radiator cap, the 3.0 does. If the 2.4 radiator isn't dropped, the top header on the radiator will not fill with coolant as it will be above the filler.

      but surely it will bleed its self up when the thermostat opens as the heater matrix does

          The 2.4 is a piggy to get airlocks out of at the best of times, also the lower 1/2 of the rad shroud is different, on the 3.0 its all one piece apart from the little strip round the bottom of the fan. the 2.4 you will lose the whole bottom 1/2 of the shroud, with ruins airflow through the rad, on a truck that has issues if it gets hot, so not a good idea.
