  • Another home made snorkel

Pretty much the same as a few others that have been done, but I wasnt happy with the overall look, so tweaked it a bit...

First, take one southdown defender head, and cut the swivel insert off flush.

Cut the large lip off a 45 degree bend, insert smallest end into head.

Cut a 12mm sleeve out of 68mm drainpipe, place over bend showing through head, hold in place with screws.

In voice of meerkat... Cut piece of drainpipe, cut along its length, and open up with heatgun. Use heatgun to mould to shape of wing, bolt on, cut hole for upright pipe. Simples. ( to be honest). Glue into place, all done.

Head is now at the right angle, but still spins, bottom dont look like I made a hole and shoved a pipe in. Happy.

Looks good mate. It's surprising how much money you can save by making your own, and it's probably no less effective or efficient than one that costs in excess of £250!

          Cheers, Nick

lol. you got me wrong mate. It wasnt a case of 'safari snorkel looks naff, mine looks cool'. (Tho I believe some people on this very forum have said a decent homemade one looks better than some of the bought ones).

Rather.. if a snorkel's needed, (and they always look naff imho, just ask the wife. bought or home made, she always says 'choo choo thomas' when she sees one), i'd rather spend £40 on naff than £240!

LOL @ choo choo thomas, that's _exactley_ the kind of thing my wife would say.
