the Lexus LS400 V8 goes in with the Lexus auto box, might save money and a few headaches.

Never seen one, the Surf Auto box need lots of inputs from the ECU and motor to shidt properly, unless you wanted to go manual shift, I'd think it was a very long winded job. You can get bellhousing for a pickup 5 speed manual box, but its not very strong, the Surf 5 speed is better, but I couldn't find one last time I looked.

Have peek at these places for info..

This one had the best stuff, but a long way away for shipping! lol

LA Supertrux and Tiger trucks (is just a copy of LA S kit..) are two places over here that will do a basic Rover V8 to Toyota 4 or 5 speed 'box, Milners used to do stuff to, but think they don't now. But thats about it that I could find awhile ago.

It is a challenge fitting the Rover v8, but the one I have (converted by someone else!) is a real pleasure to drive. I have a spare Manual ln130, with no engine, and I have the adaptor for the bellhousing that I was going to do my own conversion with! If would like the lot, I reckon it could be a really good place to start!

a few of us have done the rover v8 conversion, including myself, lord lucan and tonyN.the best way to go has already been said and thats a conversion to 5sp manual,i did and auto conversion but lost 4wd and it was rear drive only.350bhp and rear wheel drive in an 8ft tall truck made for lots of fun, lots of pics of the conversion on here, just search for stein.good luck in trying to get the surf auto box to run correctly though.

I spoke to someone a couple of years ago about using the disel autobox on a petrol V8 he recons the torque convertor would need resetting as the petrol runs higher revs and also the insides of the gearbox would also change gear incorrectly due to the same issue of engine revs .
Did Toyota sell a petrol auto Surf/4Runner ? If they did that maybe the gearbox to fit . As for ECU probs with sensors , he said to fit resistors/diodes or something like that which would send an average signal to the ECU to get it working . I dont fully understand electronics but did get an idea of wot he meant .
