would an ARB locker in ther rear be better? with a Aus locker on the front that way you could disengage the locker for normal road driving??

If you cant afford ARB's front and rear, personally id put the ARB up front and Aussie in the back. I rekon it would be more beneficial to be able to manually disengage the front, for getting round tight corners etc, rather than having to drop out of 4WD to free the front axle up. Not a prob really unless you're in low range of course the you're buggered. That said though, i never really noticed much of a handicap at Bala, but a tight green lane could be a different story.?

So far the rear locker has not locked, clunked, stuck or grabbed whilst driving round town, or on the run down to Bala, but like I mentioned earlier, it may be a bit more noticeable in the wet when a wheel tries to slip and grip levels are reduced. I will report back as and when we've had some rain..lol

With your new engine, dont even think about front diff lockers.
Your half shafts would break like twigs.

So what type of locker is best for everything, electric, Aussie or compressed air type?

Aussie lockers are the best, even the Yanks rave about them and they make their own!!.

Your tyres are pretty low though so I rekon you'll need to fettle those..Have a look at my old set, do you a good price on 'em I was keeping them 'just in case' but i dont think i'm going to need them again..

Sounds like a plan, do you mean the original set or the muds you have on currently? I'm thinking of AT2s' given I need to use the truck as my daily driver too.

Sorry to de-rail this thread. oO

Yeah, but its still an auto locker, its going to stitch you up badly in the snow or ice on the road.

I'd still rather have a manual locker, in my control.

                        That answers my question then

I'm fitting both front and rear Lockrights since at the rear it's no problem and the front I'll have free wheeling hubs!

If at the rear you have the "small bearing" diff (4 cyl), the model number for Lockrights is 1610 and if you have the V6 diff it's 1620. Then if you have IFS up front, 27 spline count, model number is 1611. Not sure if it fits the V6 front diff too though, unless 4cyl and V6 have the same front diff!

                          Hope that helps ...

Needless to say ARB's are the way to go if you can afford them ... I can't!

Help with locker choices please :-) ?

                              Hi guys,

I'm considering a locker (or possibly two) but finding it really hard to choose what to fit. I have Free-Wheeling Hubs on the front and the truck is a 3L 2nd Gen (LN130).

                              I was thinking:

                              1) "cheaper" autolocker on the front and nothing on the rear. Since I never engage 4x4 unless I'm already stuck in the mud then it could be something relatively crude since most of the time it won't be getting any power or am I totally wrong? Kaiser are really desperately trying to sell their autolockers in Brazil at the moment but I'm afraid they'll get fitted badly and make the truck undriveable or at least less reliable.

                              2) Nothing on the front and a manual locker (is there any other choice except ARB?) on the rear. That way I don't have to constantly worry about the rear tranny exploding due to a badly fitted autolocker. Downside is I would probably have to buy it in Brasil since I'm guessing it's only sane to use their special compressor.

                              3) Some other combination?

                              4) Is is posisble my truck has an LSD front / rear and therefore I should just not worry about it? I don't normally end up with one wheel in the air unless I'm driving like a numpty but it normally means no more going forwards, so I'm guessing at least the rear doesn't.

As usual, sourcing the products in Brasil is going to be a headache so something man portable I can carry in a suitcase can potentially win by default.

                              Cheers,
                              Ptarmigan

For what you want the truck, i'd suggest a pair of Detroit True Tracs both front and rear ... they never lock on you but you'd have a lot of traction on all wheels, mud or not! Then on tarmac/solid ground, the running gear is not stressed at all since there's never a 100% lock on any of the wheels, thus keeping your birfields/cv joints, diffs, half shafts, cardan shafts etc safe from breakages!
