hi guys is it true that If you want a good lift then go the Landcruiser springs as you will get 3-4" of instant lift on the springs alone on a gen 2 surf without having to change anything else?
http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=11&cid=165 for the suspenion lift kit........ can probably get it cheaper at milners? also someone had a thread about the new dampers...... cant remember who it was now...........
That is very true as there is quite a few of us that have this lift already.Ideally i would change the shocks aswell
ok what shoxs should i put on as im a bit skint at the mo so cant really aford much, my surf is already pretty high compared to a another surf but it hasnt had a body lift, is there anyway of telling if it already has these springs put on by one of the old owners?
measure the gap from the wheel rim to the underside of the wheel arch and i think it should be about 13.5".If you look through the rear wheel arch there will be a gap of about 0.5 -0.75 inch gap between the chasis and the body of the truck if there's been a bodylift fitted.
The landcruiser springs you'll need for the lift is the hd j80 springs which you can get from www.milneroffroad.com Make sure you click on the L/cruiser tab on the start of the site tho
The front end suspension is done by torsion bars so its just a case of winding them up.
You can only wind them up 2" max as you will go through the cv joints like no tomorrow.
You can fit ball joint spacers on the front to lift the front 2" and then wind the torsion bars up 1".
Another thing to add is some 1" diff spacers which will lower the front diff to reduce wear and tear on the cv's
If you want the lift for ground clearance and not just looks, then spacing the diff defeats the object. Better to fit manual hubs and only engage them when you need 4WD.
The LC springs are bigger diameter than Surf springs too, but you can buy seats for them off Surfenstein on this forum. I dont think anyone has failed an MOT for this as yet, but I have had the tester point out that the springs didn't sit in the spring seats properly before I fitted the bigger seats. It onlt takes an arsey MOT tester to fail you.
As for longer rear shocks, do it, if you dont want your rear passengers to sue you for chiropracter fees to fix their backs.
As Rich has said, ball joint spacers are a good idea so the front end ride doesn't get too hard, though they will alter your camber settings.
In short, yes it is possible to get a big lift on the cheap - BUT you need to spend a little more to make it work properly.
i do want it for offroad, i already have a swithc to look my hubs so thats fine, ok i will look into prices and get back to you on it all! thanks again
