  • What thickness bar for rock sliders ?

Am looking at making some sliders out of square tube. Probably 40mm x 40mm. Comes in different thicknesses - what do they need to be ? 3mm ? 4mm?

Have searched but didn't find the answer.

    Thanks,
    Rob.

From memory, mine are 50mm, and look about 2mm. They work!

BTW, dont use bar, they'll be too heavy

I have aquired some stainless steel box - 50mm an about 2mm. We are looking to make them in to sliders - what do you mean by bar?

                Hi Apache,

I want to do something like the pic below. They are around 3mm thick from the info on this site

If I can make them from 2mm and still be strong enough then the weight saving is a bonus.

                Thanks.

2mm will be ok,but it will be a bit of a git to weld without burn through.and if you do hit a tree or rock its liable to bend or break, you would be much better off going for 40x40x3mm or 50x50x3mm box section it might weigh a bit more but at least it wont bend or break under a sudden impact.apache yours are 3mm thick.

Mine are 3mm thick material and I've leant the truck on them quite a few times without a dent. I agree that 2mm would be a bit light

Right - Have measured them properly and they are nearer 3mm - what is the best way to go about attaching them to the truck and would you be able to make something for me?
