  • Tyres ?

I have std 15" rims at the mo, they have 265/70 15 110Q tyres, they are some unheard of cheapo a/t and awful on the road. I have read on here about 31" and 33" tyres, I cant find any markings on my tyres that say 31 or 33 so I've measured the radius from the centre of the hub to the top of the tyre and at best it's 14and a half inch, = 29" diameter. I assume 31" and 33" refer to the overall diameter of the tyre, will 31" fit on a surf that has not had any lifting kits fitted. The rear springs are quite new and the front looks quite high as if the torsion bars have already been adjusted a bit higher. If 31's will fit are 33's out of the question, and I've also seen some people have 32" will these fit without a lifting kit . I am particularly interested in th kumho 71 that are discussed in another thread, might even leave the stock rims on , although I was hoping to get some 16's sorted

31x10.5x15 is the biggest you can go with no lift

Do I need to do a body lift or a 2" spring spacer kit to get 33's on , and is it just a case of adjusting the torsion bars at the front

31/10.5/r15 (imperial size) are near-as-dammit the same size as 265/70/r15 (metric size) and were a factory option.

for 33's you need at least 4" of lift to fit them and then you will need the panhard drop bracket kit probably extended brake hoses etc.

i think i worked out my 5" lift to be about £500
          thats using
landcruiser hdj80 springs for 3" of lift
2" body lift from Danno and Jotto
1" diff spacer kit from Jotto
extened braided brake hoses from Roughtrax
and +3" shocks on the rearand +2" shocks on the front from Tonyn
          Panhard drop bracket from Bushwacker

Excuse my ignorance in this matter then, but I measured my existing tyre from centre of hub to top of tyre, not height from floor to top of tyre as this does not allow for the flat spot at the bottom when stationary, so are you saying a 31" tyre will not necessarally measure 15 and half inches from centre of hub to top of tyre , as mine is only 14 and a half at present , thats allowing a bit for possible wear of tread, it looks like it actually only measures a shade over 14"

Regarding the 5" of lift for £500, I thought it would involve other things like brake pipes , diff, gear selector etc, thats what is putting me off a bit, might look into it next year , but not a diy job that I'd like to tackle so will be looking at taking it to someone for the job lot in one go inc labour. Is there anyone on this forum , based in the northwest that can do or recommend somewhere

if you fit the 2" bodylift aswell then you will want to put the extended brake hoses on as the originals may well be tight and not enough for any articulation.
you may have to make the hole where the steering rack goes thru the bulk head a bit bigger and also where the hi/lo selector goes thru the body as you may not be able to get into lo 4wd

I have measured some 31" tyres Jon (Jotto) had in his workshop and found them to be 30" in diameter (off rim) . Jon's 32" tyres (I measured the spare on the carrier) was 31" so it appears the tyres are actually not the true size quoted . I did this to compare my 31" Bronco Dirt Devil tyres to see if they were any difference between 31" makes .

when you look at the rear axel from the rear you will see a bar which goes along the axel with a bracket on the drivers side attached to the chasis that is the panhard rod and bracket
seeing you have got the 4" life already then you won't need anything else.
the diff spacers are for the lift.sorry i never looked at your profile to see what mods were done
