  • Exhaust - Oh Bugga

Well you know how you notice things at the most inopportune time (financially)... then you have to do something 'cos MOT looms...

Well, I am now the proud owner of a new exhaust.

Longlife, Carshalton... Brian and Dan you are absolute stars... They just made sure they got the job done right... wouldn't leave it till they were satisfied. Worse than I am... I must say there is a rather interesting understated burble now... very nice...

    Before and after images...

2 1/2" straight through, apart from a tiny little silencer... kept the curves as smooth and shallow as possible...

Actually, due to another discussion that was going on, couldn't post these images...

    Had that discussion, so...

yes it is a 2 1/2" pipe flared out to 3" so that you can still get a socket on the base of the turbo flange. Then it is 3" prebent tube down to the flexi, where another flared piece takes it from 3" to 2 1/2".

Yes the turbo can breath now, pickup is better (better throttle response), and 55mph to 70mph is impressive... now where are those washers.....?

Looks great! Do you mind saying how much that bit of kit cost? My mot is due next month and my exhaust is missing the rear tail section and so I've been thinking of getting one made that exits exactly like yours does.

Everyone I rang quoted £520.00 inc vat for a 2 1/2" custom straight through system from the flexi back... Some quoted considerably more...

I whittled them down to the one that offered lifetime guarantees, and had 3" pipe benders (just in case).

        www.longlife.co.uk

They wanted an additional £100.00 to do the front pipe... so I bit their hand off knowing that it was a pig of a job, particularly in 3"...

A lot of cash, but I have no plans to get rid of my 'toy'...

i got mine from longlife too...
everyone's commented on the welding quality on on it (as i have a twin exit the join's a work of art!)

only thing they missed was painting the chassis where they fixed the hangers on. (squirt of paint fixed that(just an oversight))

me too...from the flex pipe to the back - beautiful job - sounds good too. They referred to the middle silencer as a 'dustbin' and said that it is most responsible for choking the exhaust system. I've definitely noticed an improvement at the high end (rev wise) - maintains power in top gear and at high speed.

Re the welding, apparently it's called TIG welding. Watched the guy do some welding while I was there. Very impressive. They even weld with stainless steel welding rods, which have to be hallmarked like gold/silver!

Oh, and the guy in Leeds branch, Paul, even drove me into town while they did the work so that I didn't have to wait around!

I have just had a 2-1/2" rear section fitted from the flex back with a little free-flow muffler instead of that "dustbin" that was there before.
Has a very nice note to it now.
Much better off the line and a little more balls at higher speeds too.
              $NZ 245.
