  • Bullbars and 2nd Gen's

    Gentlefolk,

for those of you that have more experience in this field, can you cast you eyes over the following image.

It is of a pickup, and a 2wd one at that. What is interesting is the front end of the frame rails and their relationship to the headlights, wings and grill. It does look remarkably similar to the 2nd Gen surf.

The first picture was taken from the mounting instructions for the new Warn front bumper for the toyota pickups... Apparently it should fit a surf (or 4runner)... anyone care to comment?

unless i'm mistaken that'll be a 4wd pickup, think i can see front drive shafts/hubs. if so, front end the same as a second gen surf, so should fit fine. where are you looking at getting one and how much? just happen to have ifs 4x4 pickup!

That is what I thought, had a dig around my own front end at the weekend, and it looks remarkably similar.

Arbil said they would do them for £449.10, give or take. The top bar is a little bit extra... Bit cheaper than the ARB bars...

      More info...

Looks the same to me, I understood the difference is between IFS and solid axle trucks, all US pickups since 86 are IFS.

They have only gone and done it again...

Now I seem to remember that the pickup rear bumper mount is different to the surf's... although the rear bumper doesn't look as nice as the front one... Although it does have some nice recesses for your fog lights...

Yes guys, that's a Toyota Hilux. Very common in Australia as is the duel cab version. 4Runners were replaced by these when the duel cab version came out. The Surf is the station wagon version of this vehicle and the basic components of the vehicles are the same. I have an ARB bull bar on my 2nd gen Surf that was made for a Hilux. The majority of Hilux parts fit a Surf, much like the 4Runner.

one or two around the uk too!
as far as i can tell from much looking under trucks in the car park at work, from the "b" pillar forward they seem to be virtually identical, except for the anti roll bar design.

hehe, yeah I think we know what a Hilux is!

The major difference between UK MK3 Hilux pickups and Surfs/4Runners is all UK trucks are solid front axle till 97' US pickups and Surfs/4Runners from 86' are all IFS. Which is the frame changes that Andy is talking about for fitting winch bumpers.

                    So to confirm...

UK/Japanese Import 2nd gen Surf's share the same front frame/valance as the US 2nd gen (Style) 4runner/pickup. So this Warn front bumper will fit our imported Surf's... as well as the IFS pickups that are floating about?

reckon so, the ARB bars seem to be interchangeable so the warn one should be too. hope so 'cause they look very smart might have think about one instead of lusting after an ARB.

                          Okey Dokey...

I have been investigating.. and need to get an understanding of how many people would be interested in a group purchase...?

Do you want the main bar, or the main bar and the loop...?

I can then go to them and try and negotiate a price...

Would be interested, with the A-bar.

Remember, if anyone's running any body lift, the brackets will need altering, not to big a deal if you not gonna winch off it, but needs thinking about and properly welding if you gonna use the winch safely.

Ok. That chap from Arbil finally got back to me...

There is a lead time of 5 to 6 weeks on these... so...

The base bar and fitting kit is £439.58 + VAT (total £516.51)
The Grill Guard Tube is £148.50 + VAT (total £174.49)

Note: These prices DO NOT include shipping...

The bar will accept WARN winches of the following flavours:

                              M6000 series,
                              M8000 series,
                              XD9000 series,
                              9.5XP ,
                              9.5Ti ,
                              9.5Si

If we order 2 or more he will give us a discount of 10%. So, who is interested...?

That will leave the main bar as £464.86
And the grill guard at £157.04
