  • Big Boots Wide boots

    Heeyyy,
Anyone help out a newbie, from the various threads i've figured that without any lift 31's are the biggest diameter boots, but what about width? Found some 31 tyres that are 13.5 wide and found wheels that are 15x12 that would take the tyre but would fit on my 2.4 Surf '94 withot ay lift?

    Cheers

Your limited on how much the wheel sticks out the arch. Thats why you have arch extensions or the Wide Body versions.

    General Tyre dimension is 31/10.5/15

      Thanks.....

Think my Surf is a wide body as it has flared wheel arches. I've a mate who's a panel beater so altering he arches shouldn't be to much of a problem if it came down to that, I was generally more worried about fouling at the front when trying to turn on full lock with 13.5 wide tyres.

all depends on the offset of the rims...

TonyN as some 35-15-15s... obviously they can't be set into the arch too much... measure from the front face of the hub to the top ball joint...

of course you can't turn a corner without cutting the arches, you'd have to work out the turning arc of the wheel along with the tyre sixe (bigger tyre, bigger arc).

I would think your main problem will actually be the outside edge of the tyre fouling the bulkhead on full lock. The arches and bumper would only need a minor trim.

When i had 31/10.5's on -20 offset 8 inch wide rims it just tickled the bulkhead on full lock with no lift, after 2inch lift it was ok untill at full compression and full lock, then it rubbed again. Went back to 7inch rims and it just clears now.

That was with mud tyres and an aggresive shoulder tread, my 31/10.5 road tyres are now on the 8inch rims and they never rub so i think its all down to tyre/rim/lift combo.

I would think with a tyre and rim combo that wide that it is likely you'll have some rubbing on full lock.

only way to find out for sure is to try!

            Thanks for the info folks.
Might revise my plans a bit.
Had a look at the bulkhead and reckon it would rub big time long before full lock. MOT failure anyone.
So it looks like i'll have to lift it some to fit boots that wide.
Oh well what's another grand between friends, just don't tell the wife.

Whatever you do dont fit 265x75x16 as they will foul the front arches however 265x70x16 would be better 15" are the norm for the SURF but you can fit 16" rims
