  • Would my bull bar be strong enough?

    Hi all

ive got a Superwinch EPi9 winch and was wondering if i could fit it to my bull bars (If i make some modifacations to it) be strong enough take the strain of the winch if i was using it to pull myself out of a mud bath or up a hill?

the bull bars i have are the full bars 2 inch steel tube with the cylinderical plastic bit on the top that has HILUX on it.

    Cheers

The short answer would be NO as you are trying to pull 2 tonne with you Bull-bar.

Totally agree with Marky. The mounting points on a standard bull bar are no where near strong enough. If you get the chance look at an ARB bumper and you'll see what I mean. Also if you were really stuck the pull could be 4 tonne (the capacity of the winch)

I thought that might be the answer

One other idea i have had is if i build my own mount out of 50mmx6mm box section bolted in 3 places on each side of the chassis with 10mm high tensile steel bolts and then weld 6mm checker plate on to mount the winch

        How does this idea sound?

Chris [OhSupremeBeing might be able to give you ideas, kit etc] he had a mounting plate/bracket fabricated for Lee [Fatcat8]. The piccies are on the Off-road/Landale discussion froum me thinks. Lee's vehicle is looking the beez neez now with the ryders winch on.

Better but you could also bolt onto the front cross member between the chasis legs which would help with the mount trying to pull down on the bolts in the chasis. Hope that makes sense

makes perfect sence obviously you can never have too much strength when fitting something like a winch.

              Cheers
