Here is my build log on how I managed to fit Audi TT mk1 seats in a 1st gen Toyota Hilux Surf (1st gen 4runner)


So in essence here is what I did:-

1) Bought some Audi TT mk1 heated seats
I chose these because I wanted black leather (easy to wipe clean), because I liked the look of them, and because they're from a 3 door car so have option to fold forwads

2) Took the original Toyota seats out
Easy enough. 4 bolts each seat.

3) Figure out how on earth to combine the two
The Audi seat bases are completely different and in no way going to fit in the Toyota without a bunch of work. So I basically spent ages staring at both the Audi and the Toyota seats trying to figure out how to create a hybrid of the two

Plus the Audi TT seats sit much higher, and I need them to sit at the same height the Toyota seats did.

4) Cut the seat bases off the Audi TT mk1 seats

5) Cut the seat bases off the 1st gen Toyota Hilux Surf (4runner) seats

6) Put the Toyota bases on the Audi seats

7) Fit!

Removing the bases from the Audi TT seats.

There was a lot of crap I just didn't need which I removed.

You'll notice there are wires for the heated seats and airbag. Airbag I'll ignore, but eventually I'll connect the heated seats up.

Pictured is the seat base from the Audi seats removed, and the actual seat base itself

Cutting up the Toyota seat bases

So I basically cut the very bottoms of the Toyota seat bases and cleaned up the top so I could weld onto them.

I then fitted the original seat bases in the truck, and welded the seats onto them in situ so I could get the positioning correct.

More cutting, positioning, testing

To get the original mechanisms to work correctly, I did have to cut some more bits off the original Audi seats underneath. Sorry, I forgot to get pictures of this

All welded into place and then painted with Hammerite black paint

The end result...

a) Black leather seats

b) Mechanisms all work (eg to go forwards / backwards)

c) Seats are at the same height as the original Toyota ones

d) Can still get in the back

e) MUCH more comfortable!

They look really good and they don't look out of place at all - the black leather suits the interior :-)
