I am thinking of taking the side steps off my beast - have done a load of searching on the forum where several people have said they are planning to modify the existing step brakets or make their own rock sliders.... I prefer the look of the round section tube type...Has anyone actually made these?

Any pics of a burgundy surf without side steps on it out there?

The only one I could see on the members rigs was delboys... I noticed another one on there which had what looked like a metal stirrup obvioulsy in place of the step... anyone fitted these?.. I guess you could hinge it easily enough so ground clearance was maintained... but I guess no good for sill protection...

They come in bolt on or weld on design, all depends on if you are going to sell it on at a later date.

I would go for the bolt on myself, it's up to you.

You got me... the bullet does look good...

Andy - they look perfect - any idea how much it would cost to get these made up? Bolt on... I'm thinking stainless..although that will probably treble the price...

Yes but some of the links are dead since I did the search, I was looking at getting some over from the US but it worked out far too expensive.

You will need to search a bit more with this one.

Ahh ok - I thought you had found a decent supplier in UK. They will have to stay on my US wish list for now as there are other import priorities for my next few trips!!

The Surf you have seen with the stirrups is probably Sumos. Being a two door it doesn't need full length steps.I think they look kewl. I'm thinking of making some now that my welding is starting to look less like pigeon poo. We have a good stainless steel tube supplier in Luton. They do everything from capilliary tube, tiny stuff for making hyperdermic needs, to 4" Dia 3/8 Wall thickness.
                      It's only a hobby!

Maybe we should see about getting a few sets made up - the missus has said that she needs some kind of support to get in to the beast so If I take the side steps off I will have to put something there. I have sent the plan that andy posted to a steel fab place to get a price for making them up - will let you know when they come back with a cost...Although I can't imagine they would be that hard to make - If only I had a pipe bender...

I think that plan is for a 3rd Gen so would have to check dims etc for a 2nd Gen but should give some idea...

Tony has been threatening to make me some for ages - I just have to let him stay at home one weekend rather than making him slave away in Stevenage LOL!!

I'd happily come down and spend a day cutting & welding....

I've got an Autocad drawing for the sliders I made for my 2nd gen. They're square tube so not exactly what you're looking for but they clamp onto the frame so no welding and that part should be useable. Let me know if you want a copy.
