I'm wondering if anyone can advise me how to diagnose a dud master or slave clutch cylinders. I've searched old posts, but can't find anything. I've seen suggestions to overhaul the seals, but how difficult is this ? I thought it was usual to just bung in new units, tho these seem to be pretty pricey from toyota or the parts places i've tried (not done milners/roughtrax yet). Any advice ?

it'll feel like its got air in it, but you can't bleed it out, or may stick down if the seals are split.
I got a used one of Ebay, from a pickup.
Rough trax sell master cylinders for £25 and the slave for £15. Not worth rebuilding them for that.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

Clutch hydraulics
I've tried Milners, and they told me that they don't to either clutch master or slave cylinder (or seals), but they do a 'clutch kit' (could this be the clutch plates listed on the website, duh...).
Roughtrax;
Clutch master cylinder 86.00
Clutch master seal repair kit 15.40
Clutch Slave cylinder 45.50
Clutch Slave seal repair kit 15.50
Though these are genuine toyota (and my local toyota dealer was a LOT more than this). My vehicle is a UK spec, and may have different bits than a surf ? Unlikely, i think, but possible...
I think that if the slave were dud, it would be most likely to lose some fliud (and it doesn't, yet...), so it's probably the master cylinder.
So, i'm still on the horns of my dilemma (and it's getting uncomfortable).
Is it worth doing the seals, or should i get the parts new ?
Opinions, and experiences, please !

Yep, bled the system and replaced all old fluid. It helped, but i noted how gunky the fluid was. This set me wondering about how good the seals were... After bleeding it is still sometimes (not always) hard to shift into first/reverse. A second pump of the pedal makes it go fine.... ergo, pressure is not all it should be (though why only sometimes ....?).
