A/C Magnetic Clutch Service parts.

Folks...

A/C Compressor magnetic clutch time. It would appear that my magnetic clutch is wearing out the shims/washers/bearings... and spraying a lovely shade of brown rust over that part of the engine bay. The A/C chap who regassed me in summer mentioned that I ought to look into it. Well now that there is a lull, and a birthday coming... I thought I would investigate it.

Checking the EPC, I can get some of the components, but if I want the bits for the clutch, I need to get all of them as a complete unit (at £211.00 + vat!). The diagrams do not help in deciphering how the clutch mechanism works, or which bits wear (short of taking it apart and scrathcing my head some). My mechanically gifted chum mentioned that these items have a tendency to wear over time and just need to get a regular clean and reshim to specifications.

I would presume that Toyota produce a service kit for this, replace the bits that wear, tweak to spec, job done... or am I being foolish...

Toyota in their infinite wisdom would encourage you to replace the complete unit rather than fix it (sounds like the viscous fan all over again). (I am being foolish - fix it? No! replace it! and keep replacing bits until it works... its only the customers money... what are you doing driving a car that old anyway... etc. etc. etc... ramble, mumble mumble)

So anyone had to do this? Anyone been there and done that?

I understand this to be a Nippon Denso Compressor type 10PA15C, same as the 3.0 litre 2nd Gen... and coincidentaly quite a few other vehicles around this time (1991 - 1998)

Well it certainly isn't a 10PA15C... as first thought (I really ought to get my eyes tested). It is in fact a 10PA17C, not that makes much difference. I am trying to get hold of a service kit for it. The idea of a refurbished or new one... anything from £300 to £600 just for the compressor. Then there is the magnetic clutch (see price above). I am trying to track one down that comes with a magnetic clutch, then I can swap over the original top panel and nose.
Still going to hurt the wallet, just looking for the most cost effective option. Service kit should run about £60 - £70, with a modify for R143A with the cheater valves, PAG oil and replace the Drier/Filter, and all the seals we disturb coming in at £140 more. Totalling (best case scenario) £240.00.

Then there is the issue of the condenser being upto the job... if everything else has failed.... or is failing (slowly).

Put your details down and with in a day you will have a complete one for under £90.
I got one and is been running all this summer fine.
